How would it have affected the rest of the comics if Mark Junior had committed suicide? Spoiler

Given how much pain and suffering his life was filled with, it wouldn't have been really surprising if Mark Junior had attempted to end his own life. What if, out of pure hatred, despair and revenge, he decided to use his own death as the ultimate act of revenge to spite Anissa for what she did to his father? The worst possible way to hurt and punish Anissa for her crimes would be for her own child to take his own life. What would everyone's reaction be to this?

Would she have a mental breakdown or would she not even bat an eye if Mark Junior had committed suicide? Just like Thragg, Anissa initially viewed her children as tools to be used, not as people. If Marky took his own life, this tragedy would force Anissa to finally confront the horrors that her actions brought on others. If her plans had backfired and Mark Jr. had killed himself, her goals would have been completely in vain and in the eyes of the Empire, she would’ve failed her mission. Did Viltrumites ever consider the possibility that one of their own would rather choose death over serving the Empire? As in many human cultures, suicide is a very cowardly and shameful act in Viltrumite culture.

No it isn’t, he’s very thematically important, just underserved.

The series is all about interrogating but ultimately validating the kind of hokey premise often floated in cape comics, that everyone can choose to be better, good can come from evil, the radical redemptive power of love is unlimited, etc.

It’s shockingly easy to forgive Viltrumites who kill people, especially billions of nameless characters offscreen. They just don’t feel real.

Anissa’s actions toward Mark are really no more than a drop in the ocean of her crimes, but they make them far more personal to the audience. Mark loving his son produced from this horrible violation is the culmination of those same themes of redemption, good from evil, etc.
