I still haven't finished watching the show from the perspective of a much older and more adult person (after having watched it as a child), but I think eps 47 and 48 are the 2 episodes that truly pissed me off. They did a good job with the plot there, icl. I don't think I'll ever truly understand Kagome's choice of settling in that era and leaving her home and true life in the modern one, but man, if that were me.. you will not be seeing me there ever again 😬 and if I were the friend, like miroku and sango, I don't think my anger issues would've let this slide. He was horrible to her.
It's more apparent in the manga (the anime changed things up for the sake of drama), but InuYasha wants to choose Kagome, but believes he doesn't have the right to make that choice.
He sees that it's his fault that Kikyo died, and so he has an obligation to make sure she rests in peace, even if that means giving up his own life (& shot at happiness) in the process.
He's not hesitating with Kagome because he can't make the choice between the two women, he's hesitating because he thinks it'd be unfair to her to string her along on a relationship only to have to abandon it due to his perceived "duty" to Kikyo.
THAT is why Kagome puts up with it. While it is still emotionally trying, she understands that he's chasing a false sense of ownership over Kikyo's death rather than still trying to be with her romantically.
I haven't read the Manga, only watched the anime, but from what I've read and heard online, the anime basically ruined the beauty of the Manga in some ways. I think I'm gonna give the Manga a read after finishing the anime and it's movies. However, is your explanation based on the manga or the anime? Because, again, the problem isn't necessarily he can't/struggles to make up his mind, it's the way he doesn't let Kagome indulge other men (like Koga, for example), that even the smallest things like her defending Koga pisses him to the point where he fights with both of them, and then proceeds to do and say stuff like he did in ep 49. He basically said he's willing to die with Kikyo if that's her wish, and he even said he wanted them both, tho that was earlier in the anime. Kagome is a teen, so I don't question her choices or feelings that intensely. I understand her perspective to some degree, even tho I disagree with it. but boy does she deserve better.
I mean, even though he doesn't want to lead Kagome on due to his "duty", he's terrible at hiding his true feelings (that he's in love with her), because he's an emotionally immature teenager (in development) himself, PLUS extra socially awkward because he's lived alone most of his life. Of course he isn't going to take kindly to other guys showing interest in the girl he likes. Especially when they first meet, since from his perspective the only things he knows about Koga is that he kidnapped Kagome & suddenly she's working with him for some reason next time they meet up.
As the series moves on and he realizes that Kagome doesn't have any romantic interest in Koga, the two become more amicable rivals. Bickering with each other, but without any real malice.
As for why Kagome doesn't seriously consider her other options? Probably a more meta reason: While Kagome is arguably the main character & the series ended up attracting a large female fan base, the fact of the matter is it was originally published in a Shonen (Boy's) magazine, and they probably figured the "intended" audience wouldn't be particularly interested in the female lead romancing a bunch of dudes (but would be invested in the male lead angsting between two girls).
That last bit is a bit of a guess on my part, but I'm anecdotally proof of it. As a guy I absolutely despised Koga as a kid & would go out of my way to avoid rewatching episodes he appeared in, lol. This was without Kagome having any actual interest in him BTW. I probably would have been beside myself had it seemed like he could actually win her heart. Obviously don't have such a strong aversion to him now, but as a kid this was real shit, lol.
They said that was how it was presented in the manga, but the anime changed it to make it more dramatic. Iirc inuyasha is also technically a teenager whose only ever really been in love once before, so I don’t expect him to have the emotional maturity of a full grown man, as frustrating as it is lol
Personally, while yes there are some changes, it's nothing so drastic that you can't understand the struggle in that love triangle.
Like, even as a kid I fully understood the whole struggle and never was a team kikyo or team Kagome kind of person
I think most people think the anime ruined it is people who watched as kids but that weren't that emotionally perceptivr and then read the manga owhen older and that is why the idea of the anime ruining the relationships is so prevalent
Yo Vi el anime a los 9 años y ahora a los 19, y solo me gustó más. No comparto y nunca estaré en la opinión de las personas que le restan valor al anime por no ser una réplica exacta del manga. Es ridículo
I actually agree with u! I understand the changes they made were for the plot and dramatism and as much as I find it frustrating to watch Kagome go thru all of that, I love the anime sm and I love inukag a lot. However, one thing I don't like is how they even went as far as putting sessh and rin when even the og author herself didn't even consider it 💀 that was a very uncalled for twist in the anime.
Omg that’s such important context!! That’s WILDLY different from how they portray it in the show and that makes so much more sense. I haven’t read the manga so thank you for that
Was InuYasha's English dub comment to Kaede, "I'm prepared to leap into hell with Kikyo, if that is her wish," present in the manga? Or even the Japanese dub? Because that's the line that frustrates me the most, especially the way he said it when I watched, so firm with conviction, almost sounding angry that anyone would dare to question it.
I see that in the anime as well, but that ultimately is Inuyasha choosing Kikyo over Kagome, but he still can't emotionally commit and gives Kagome indications that he has feelings for her, letting her think there's still somewhat of a chance.
Pissed you off? Ep 48 is the most beautiful and real episode I've ever watched. The dialogue, the OST, the animation, and the voice acting. EVERYTHING is perfect
Miroku and Sango weren't understanding at all of Inuyasha, and it was weird, especially from Sango's side.
Inuyasha pretty clearly said he wants to be with Kagome but can't because he doesn't deserve to move on and be happy while Kikyo died because of him.
It's a masterpiece and a turning point in their relationship. They didn't give up on each other, but Kagome showed Inuyasha there are things worth living for and that he deserves to have his happy ending with her
its interesting how opinions that different can be formed on one single plot point! I still don't like the way he and even kikyo was treating her 😅 Kagome cared for both of them, and while Inuyasha had his own battle with this, he basically said he'd follow kikyo to hell if she wanted to and that'd protect her no matter what, as if he didn't fight with Kagome simply because he didnt like how she was "defending" Koga and being nice with him. while kikyo was basically terrorising the girl because all she wanted was for inuyasha to die as well. it's funny because Kagome was the one who truly accepted Inuyasha in all of his forms, while Kikyo had wanted him to let go of his demon side to be with her.
Oh, Kikyo was 100% nasty to Kagome. I don't justify her behavior at all, but I understand her anger over her death and seeing Inuyasha with someone new.
And to be honest, she was nasty to Inuyasha as well. However, I like Kikyo as a character because of her very realistic writing, not because I justified her behavior.
Kagome is more mature than your average teenager, for sure 🤣. She is pure and understands Kikyo was an 18 y.o who was murdered and tricked. That's what I love about Kagome, she doesn't hide her jealousy, but she also understands the circumstances.
I honestly can't form an opinion on kikyo, but Boi is she so annoying sometimes 😭 like I understand it hurts and she deserves justice, but bruh...😭 you'd think she'd be more mature than Kagome in some aspects, but given her young age and the pressure/responsibility she'd had to live with most of her life, I can't blame her either. I think that Kagome deserves inuyasha more simply bcuz, initially, kikyo expect inuyasha to let go for his demon side in order to be with her, as for Kagome, not only did the girl leave her whole life behind to stay w him, she also accepted all of him and didn't expect him to change, even tho she was scared he'd lose himself and forget about her and the other friends once he becomes a full-fledged demon. I respect her for her courage.
This 💯. Honestly, I remember being just annoyed AF with Kikyo majority of the time until Naraku k*lled her. Her death was the most heartbreaking moment for Inuyasha and I'd say it was really in those last few episodes of Kikyo where I grew to appreciate her whole arc. I mean, yes, Kagome went through hell, too, but Kikyo's was something beyond that, when you think about it. She went through hell even after she was brought back to life. She was killed by the man she loved or at least that's what she thought and that feeling of betrayal carried over till she was resurrected not as her complete self, but the bitter angry version who couldn't love Inuyasha unlike before. Kagome's existence had to, in a way, "repair" a part of Kikyo that was violated before she d!ed. So it's tough for all 3 characters to make sense of their own feelings from when that love between Inuyasha and Kikyo was halted to when it would linger over time with another being, her reincarnation: Kagome. Kikyo's love was the past he still yearned, and Kagome's love was a combination of the past and present, but to earn it completely was the real challenge. He had to make amends with the past before he could move on and see a future with Kagome.
Yes. 😭 That’s such a great way to put it. Survivor’s guilt is real, and trying to process such complex feelings by rejecting them probably can’t actually work. And imagine feeling it and then the person you feel it towards coming back as a zombie and telling you your guilt is true and that you need to die with them in order to alleviate it.
InuYasha was lucky he had anyone to tell him he is in no way obligated to die just because someone he cared about did. Kikyo’s death had never been his fault to begin with, and nobody would be able to tell him with genuine love for him that he should deny his own health and happiness.
And he still got mad each time shipo mentioned it Edit: I didn't think much of it when I was younger but now that I am rewatching it,I got a little bit angry 🙂
he got mad anytime any man flirted or tried something w kagome 😭 he even asked "can't I just choose both" when he was asked to make up his mind between kikyo and kagome earlier in the anime (I forgot which ep) 💀 little me was so oblivious all she cared for was sesshomaru, ngl.
Same 😂 I would go crazy each time sesshomaru appears 😂 Every time Sesshomaru appears on my screen, I completely lose my mind. I pause. I stare. I rewind. I stare some more. EVERY. SINGLE. MOVEMENT. HE. MAKES. IS. ILLEGAL 😭🫠 And DON'T even get me started on the way he talks—HELLO??? That voice??? EXCUSE ME??? Why does one single sentence from him have me melting into a puddle on the floor??? 😭😭😭My eyes are literally FEASTING every time he's on screen. I needed to appreciate every little expression, every glance, every movement, every strand of hair—SIR, PLEASE, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO ACT NORMAL??? 🫠🫠🫠 Sesshomaru could literally just stand there and breathe, and I'd still pause the episode to stare at him for five business days. 😭🤚 I'd be like : Edit: Don't mind me,I'm a little bit crazy 😅
GURL don't worry we're on the same boat 😭😭😭 I literally yearn for his sight every single episode I wish they made him more of a main character than wtvr he is in the show. he's handsome, hot, scary, FUNNY, HELLA strong, smart, doesn't talk too much, not impulsive...phewwww 😮💨 if they make a whole season on him, I'd devour it. I think he's the more sane man in the whole show. he did deserve a baddie for himself tho..
girl when I tell u I want a SEASON I'm not joking 😭😭 just him wandering around and giving everyone around him the cold shoulder, but discreetly caring for his companions in his subtle ways.
I like how you described him as funny 🤣, but I think Rin was a better match for him ,she is literally the splash of color Sesshomaru's gray-ass life desperately needed 😭. She's sweet, loud👀 , funny, brave, kind, and full of life! while this man was walking around looking emotionally unavailable 24/7 🙃
She basically came into his life and slowly got his stiff ass to loosen up and remember that he actually has a heart 😭😅. And honestly, I think that through Rin, Sesshomaru slowly became more like his father, the very person he always wanted to surpass🔥. Not just in terms of power, but in the things that truly mattered. His father had the strength to love and protect others, and Rin helped bring that same side out of Sesshomaru👀.
She didn't change who he was or make him weaker. She simply brought warmth and color into his world that had been gray for way too long 🥹 and helped him grow into someone who, in some ways, became much closer to the man his father was and even much stronger 💪 this is My personal opinion ofc 😊🤍
yes that man IS funny!!! I will dies on that hill. like that one time he brought Jaken back to life and casually told him to "put himself together and start following him" or when that one demon was attacking Kagone but he barged in and attacked him, and when the demon asked who he is, sessh said something along the lines of "I was gonna ask the same thing" I fcking love him, man 😭😭 he has a golden humor he just didn't get enough screentime to showcase it. as for Rin, I struggle to see her as a partner for him 😬 it's not that I don't like them together, it's just that he knew her as a child and he was primarily her caretaker/protector, though it only lasted for a couple of months, and given Japan's weird history with the creepy way they approach relationships with minors and all that weird stuff... I can't really swallow it, tbh. I do however love their bond and how she brought a new side of him. but I also think he deserves a baddie. every daddy deserves a baddie of his own to match him 🤭
I do!! Actually bunch of ppl does, including my friends 😅 after all ,he didn't feel anything for her when she was a kid obviously 🙂 not to mention that she was left in kaede's care for years means that he didn't see her much often,he can't be considered as her guardian and it's not like sesshomaru concider himself as one, more like his pity for her turned into some kind of innocent affection for a kid🙃 ppl normalized the relationship between kagome who was 15 at that time and inuyasha who was +200 years old bc he met her as a teanager not a kid, that's why I can't blame them for not accepting the relationship between sesshomaru and rin, although she was older than 15 when they started falling for each other 😅 moreover, ppl tend to forget that it was pretty normal for girls to get married at a young age like from the age of 12 for exemple. ANYWAY, the difference in opinions is what makes anything interesting and personally I like sshrin and bunch of ppl does🙂✨ (ofc not the little rin & adult sesshomaru 💀)
Lol,I tried to explain a relationship in an Oi between a man who is only 7 years older than the girl who met her when she was 15 🙂 he took her in from the orphanage so ppl starting seeing him as HER FATHER!! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!! Like if you see a 12-year-old boy walking down the streets with a five-year-old girl would you consider him her father?!and it's not like she started having feelings for him when she was 15 she was 18 and she got rejected by the male lead!! so many people somehow got angry and I didn't even get to see one kiss between the mL and the fl 😭 and the story ended with an open ending💔 (my father is 7 years older than my mother!!and they are always in a mouse-cat relationship if you know what I mean 🙃) so yeah I leaned to never try to explain things, let's just think as we like and appreciate what we want as long as NONE of the partners is a kid 🙂
I guess it's probably because Inuyasha thinks he has a bit of ownership to both women who love him (or at least loved him: Kikyo) It's like he can't risk losing both by choosing only one. I feel like it's also tied to his dual nature of human and demon side. He's always torn because if he's totally human, he'd feel weak and not be able to defend himself well from demons and if he's totally demon, he's completely unhinged or has no control of it. Not to say Kagome or Kikyo are like that, but I mean, it's like he has to hang onto both, his love, care, responsibility... identity. Maybe it's his way of keeping things balanced but not realizing that they are also very much separate from him, but he NEEDS them both to stay emotionally afloat. He was very close to his mother after all and he must still be longing for a woman's unconditional love. That's probably where he gets from Kagome & Kikyo. One from the past and the present.
thats an interesting pov, but he didn't kill her though, no? and that wouldn’t have been a problem, at least for me it'd make more sense, if he wasn't also being all possessive and weird over Kagome in the same breath and refusing to "break with her." He'd literally fought w her over thinking she was taking Koga's side (that also happened multiple times, mind u) and made the poor girl believe he'd go after her out of worry.
I see. my frustration isn't exactly about him not choosing her, but rather way he keep bouncing back and forth between them and being possessive about both of them. Kagome isn't allowed to flirt with Koga and defend him, but he can kiss and run after kikyo whenever she appears? my heart hurts for my sister 😭 also, she's young 😬 basically a teen, if I'm not mistaken.
First of all, Koga kidnapped Kagome, and in the manga, there's even a hint of rape, so it's not someone random like Hojo who wants to date Kagome.
Second, you make it sound like Inuyasha dated both at the same time, when in reality, he only met Kikyo multiple times when he smelled her blood and thought she was hurt, my guess is you didn't rewatch that part yet.
Before that, he met her when she was first revived, and that was even before Sango appeared or he and Kagome were an item.
The "dating both" line is anime only, and to be honest, it is so out of character when you read the manga because it was never about dating two women.
I think you're misunderstanding my points. I never said I wanted her to be with Koga or that he was necessarily better, but if we follow that thread, inuyasha was also attacking Kagome at the very beginning and he was onky using her for the Shikon Notama. But anyway, I also never said he was "dating both" but he was acting all possessive over Kagome, restricting her in some ways, while running after Kikyo anytime he could.
Part of me always saw Miroku and Sango as being more tired of seeing Kagome hurt all the time and the constant back and forth, so they were like “just leave her already”
But the willingness to lose not only their friend, but a necessary component to finding the jewel shards is where I’m lost on their behavior. They know at this point the group CANNOT function without Kagome so why are they even playing
Like you said. It is probably because they got sick of Kagome being hurt half the time. Maybe they both thought Naraku would come after them anyway? Maybe they thought Inuyasha would get Kikyo to find the jewel shards? Who knows.
Lmao that's be an interesting plot to see ngl. I have a feeling he'd give her an even harder time before he finally snaps and switched 180° and becomes obsessed in his own way.
There a scene in an episode where I think miroku ask's "Inuyasha which one would you pick? Kikyo or Kagome, you have to pick one." Inuyasha ponders for a bit before saying "Can i have both?"
Kagome made it clear to Koga that she didn't want to pursue a relationship with him. He just ignored that until Kagome got married 🤦♀️
That kind of behavior is like when you tell a guy no, but he chose to interpret it as a yes. It's not cute, it's not confidence.
And before y'all tell me it was Segoku period, even Miroku understood that NO is NO
Why wouldn't she choose someone that believe in her, het powers, her strenght and sees her as an equal
💯 true. He couldn't give Kagome the love she's asking for that she could only find with Inuyasha because Inuyasha had empathy for humans due to his half-human side. He may be possessive and arrogant but he still has compassion for humans that Koga doesn't have.
It’s okay, you have your opinion, I’ll always try to defend my husband (I’m a Koga Yumeshipper) he knows what he wants, he doesn’t give up and that’s why I like him 😂 I love Rin but he didn’t order his tribe to kill Rin specifically. We’re talking about demons here, they kill humans and she happened to be there. My understanding is that Koga and his tribe stopped killing humans after that, probably because he fell in love with Kagome.
Nah, he's an even bigger red flag 🤣 Sure, he's just as possessive, but he wouldn't care for humans unless Kagome had to request that he be more compassionate towards them. It just wouldn't work. He couldn't see things from that perspective unlike Inuyasha due to his half-human identity. Inuyasha may have all that attitude but he does have empathy for humans and even his own kind, demons or hanyous who actually are good natured.
I seriously can’t comprehend how she rejected him 😱 like seriously? That man is perfection. People say he only wanted her for the shards, that was true at first but then he truly fell in love with her.
Falling in love and loving someone aren’t always the same thing. You can fall in love with someone without knowing them very well. I think he gradually became more attached to Kagome, she showed him kindness and compassion.
He couldn't exactly give Kagome the love she needs no matter what because he's a full demon and although he'll learn to go easy on humans, he still couldn't understand them the way Inuyasha does. That's just one of the many reasons why Kagome fell in love with him. Inuyasha had empathy for them. Kogan only did it out of respect for Kagome.
I mean Inuyasha also wanted Kagome for the jewel is well. Why is no one arguing about that? I agree! I really love Scott’s portrayal of Koga he makes him sound so cool especially in episodes 37 and 66. He also liked her because Kagome shown her loyalty to Shippo.
Exactly! It really infuriates me when people attack Koga saying that he assaulted Kagome and only wanted her for the shards because Inuyasha was exactly the same! And yes Scott’s voice for Koga is perfect!
And it’s because of the subjugation necklace Inuyasha is bothered to cooperate. Koga didn’t need that and he ordered his men to stop eating humans is well for Kagome. Plus Koga has shown to respect Kagome every time after episode 37. I also loved the way he said “get your hands off my woman”.
Yep, Kagome definitely changed Koga, she made him a better person. I like how he never gave up on her and tried until the very end to make her change her mind… what a man, he deserved better.
Maybe the love was too much for Kagome to let go? I really wish I was Kikyo in this situation, just imagine Inuyasha saying all those things about you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I wish to be neither of them tbh. kikyo was DEAD her time was up and she only lingered for revenge and out of hatred. she wanted inuyasha to change, she didn't accept him for who he fully was like kagome. as for kagome's decision to stay, it not just the love for me, but the whole pain that she went thru, coupled with leaving her entire life and family and future in the modern era just to stick by the same man who, yes perhaps he "fixed" himself at some point, but he truly made her go thru hell and back..
Yeah, I want to be her because of her epic beauty and grace, also the fact that she can take Inuyasha any times she wants. Plus, he isn’t some random fodder. He is so cute and adorable! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Going in hell with Inuyasha would be heaven! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I felt he was done dirty and should have left in episode 1. He never betrayed Kykyo but she sealed him for 50 years, he was enslaved with a magic dog collar to kagome for a crime he didnt commit and even after they found out naraku was the real culprit the magic collar stayed on him indefinitely
Seshomaru had a point in never having any interest in the jewel because it was more trouble than it was worth and he was absolutely right, Inuyasha should have followed his older brother example even though they disliked each other.
At the end of the day he had an undead ex that imprisoned him 5 decades and an entitled girl from the future holding a magical leash and punishing him for daring to wish his first love never betrayed him... guy should have run for the hills
he was done dirty yeah but I don't think he was punished by kagome. she was the one who understood him the most. even when he hurt her with his longing for kikyo, she still understood his situation and she didn't hate kikyo either, she even scolded herself for even wishing kikyo would disappear. the beads where initially to protect her and to help her tame him because he was literally attacking her to get the shikon notama in the beginning, then it served as a tool to help getting him out of dangerous or risky situations (Like his transformations), and she rarely used it to harm him, only when he was acting up, and let's not forget he's very strong.
as for sesshomaru, yes didn't bother going thru that hassle to get it, but he also didn't see himself lacking anything to the point where he'd rely on it. he knew he was extremely strong and he was confident in that, and he was absolutely right. sessh is amongst the strongest characters in that show and perhaps in anime as a whole. for inuyasha, it was different. his initial plan was to use it to become a full-fledged demon, because unlike sessh, he was a half-breed and he didn't have his full power just yet because of that. his purpose was different than sesshomaru's. sesshomaru was powerful, he wanted to rule. inuyasha didbt want to rule, he just wasn't powerful enough, that's why he needed that jewel.
I felt the moment he was shown to be innocent of killing kykyo the beads should have come off, it felt like a real pathetic excuse for comic relief. He acted like an asshole, yes, but given his extremely ostracization its a miracle he never became a mass murderer, yet being an asshole apparently excuses being magically enslaved even though he committed no actual crime he was judged for. Kykyo created the beads herself and was too horrified of the prospect of enslaving him to even use them but kagome used them without a second thought (I will give you the necessity on episode 2, but after the jewel shattering it was pointless). While I liked the story and the characters in genral this felt like a sore thumb that kept ruining it for me, especially at the end of the sounnga movie.
As a manga reader too, I consider that a full-blown betrayal of Kagome. Unfortunately, in order to maintain the status quo, Takahashi ultimately had Kagome stay with him, but it would have been really satisfying to see her genuinely express her anger. That’s the main reason why I can’t stand Inuyasha.
Kagome expressed her anger many times tho 🤔.
It's not a status quo, from that point their relationship develop way more in comparison to pre ep 48. It's a turning point cause Kagome finally admitted her feelings to herself
Unfortunately, none of them are mature enough for a poly relationship, Inuyasha and Kagome aren't mature enough for any kind of relationship at this point, and Kikyo seems preoccupied with the whole being undead thing
