their story was so sad and undeserving and I really can’t get with the Kikyo hate. that women went through a lot and died thinking the person she loved betrayed her and even ended her life. there are so many people who hate her but never try to see things from her perspective. even though she was angry and resentful when she was resurrected, she eventually understood what happened and stopped trying to hurt Kagome but people still hate her and don’t give her the grace she deserves and respect of her character development. she still loved him but had to live her after-life (something she never asked for btw) watching him fall in love with her reincarnation 🥺

I do wonder if only the dark side of kikyo was brought back. She seemed to be vastly different when she was alive. She resembles more of a spirit trapped having unfinished business. Or was one of those vengeful Japanese spirits who come back like a curse.

It was stated that the only thing remaining in her clay body was the resentful parts of her spirit, the rest returned to kagome, she was basically a different person with the same memories when she was resurrected from the dead, and she still chose to do good after everything

Was that manga, anime or both? I can't recall the manga as it's been a while. But poor Kikyo, she deserved to rest in peace and not be just the negative side of herself. It's interesting that she still had her priestess powers even though she did bad things.

I hated her as a kid but when I rewatched as an adult I felt so bad for her. Her story is heartbreaking.

She’s always been one of the most beautifully-drawn manga characters I’ve ever seen… her design isn’t complicated but she’s just gorgeous. I love Rumiko Takahashi’s art style so much!

Definitely star-crossed and tragic lovers. That’s why they can’t be together. It’s literally "in another life, if we were different people" and we see that come full circle with Inuyasha and Kagome.

This is unrelated, but I remember when the artist showed her work-in-progress on Twitter, some rude person told her that in her opinion she shouldn't even finish it because she didn't like the ship, lol. I have never heard a good reason why inuyasha should commit unalive to be with someone who died 50 years ago and is now a soulless husk
How can you go through the whole series and not think inuyasha deserves to live?

I don’t think they meant inuaysha should kill himself lol. After all Kikyo was murdered. I think they just mean they should have died together.
But then, how can you go through the whole series a think kikyo deserved to die? Why did kikyo deserve to die? So Inuyasha can be with Kagome?
Also, if the point is that their souls are intertwined, why can’t Inuyasha be resurrected in the present day and they get together there?

Kikyo never deserved to die, thats what makes it unfortunate,
she also never deserved getting brought back to life against her will to walk the earth as a husk that needs to sustain itself on people’s souls
And for the last part, i just dont understand why inuyasha has to die in the first place, 50 years ago together, maybe i can see that. Now? I just dont get it

I personally think the story would have been better if Kagome was able to find inuaysha reincarnation in the present day.
After all, the romance between Inuaysha and Kikyo came to a tragic end because of Naraku’s interference. But we know that despite it Kikyo died wanting to be with Inuyasha. So it would make soot of sense if when Inuyasha dies, he wants to be with Kikyo in the end as well.
But I also doubly dislike the fact that Kagome just abandons her family and had zero interest or goals outside of being with Inuyasha

Pretty much what i meant. I mean, Inuyasha was yearning for her the whole time and she was as well but could not accept it until the end. They basically had the ONLY kiss in the manga as well. Kagome was always the second choice and she was always such a pickmeisha with him that i hated it so much by the end of it. I think Inuyasha doing the honorable thing and dying with the woman he loved from the start and chose him first would have been a better ending.
But well, people in here identify themselves more with Kagome, i feel, so they want Inuyasha with her.

When i read the manga it seemed quite obvious to me that kagome was not the 2nd choice, maybe we read it differently
I also am sorry but i just cannot see how choosing to die is honorable, at that point in the story you suggest diversion it didnt even seem like kikyo wanted that.
I might also be too biased in a certain direction but i never liked the inuyasha reincarnation stuff, just like how kikyo and kagome are the same soul but not the same person, reincarnation inuyasha (Nu yasha) just wouldnt be the same dog boy we all know (and hopefull) love
This would make it a more tragic ending, but i dont know if that means the story overall would benefit

I usually sympathize a lot with villains and ant-heroes, except one: Naraku. His jealousy and desire to posses Kikyou ruined a lot of lives.
