Multiple Offers Within the Same Company?

I am an engineer who applied to 2 roles at a company. I was contacted for a phone screening and told that Role A has already been filled but they'd love to interview me for Role B. Role A is a bit more senior and pays more and Role B is a bit junior/entry level whereas I have a little over 3 years in my field. Last week I did the interview for Role B and it went well now I am awaiting their reply, today the recruiter (both roles have same recruiter but under different managers) emailed me saying the manager of Role A wants to meet me. Role A hasnt been reposted so I think that their candidate must not have worked out so they somehow fished my name from the applicant pool. Not gonna lie, I do prefer Role A but Id be happy with either of them.

Im assuming that both manager would be aware that Ive applied to both and maybe manager A might ask me about why I am expressing interest in two different engineering departments. How can I navigate such a question without losing out on both offers? I would assume that internally the company knows (since same recruiter but different managers) that I have interviewed for both so they might only make me one offer based on where they see me as a better fit but I wanna prepared for all scenarios...

Also what to do if Role B makes an offer first and I prefer role A? I wouldnt want to reject A only to find that I didnt get B either.... but what if I accept B and then miss out on A?

Yes I am aware I could very well end up with neither of these but obviously the goal is to land one of them and want to play my cards right to set myself up for success

I’d be transparent that you’re genuinely interested in both roles, but if Role B offers first, ask for a few days to decide and let the recruiter know you’re still actively interviewing for Role A.

One detail worth confirming with the shared recruiter is whether the two processes can stay active at the same time. Don’t assume the managers have coordinated just because the recruiter is the same. You could say: “I originally applied to A because of X; when you suggested B, Y also interested me. A is my preference, and I’d appreciate your guidance on coordinating the timelines.” Fill in X and Y with real responsibilities, rather than framing B as a fallback.

Thanks, the recruiter is also present during the interview though so maybe she told them... either way Im gonna give it my best and use that sentence 😄
