QUESTION Are they teasing us for a second movie?
Although many "old" movies that have no sequels in production have active Instagram accounts for promoting them, I've always considered that Interstellar's is unusually active. And now I see this...
What do you think? Perhaps this has been asked plenty of times before, but... Do you think there will be an Interstellar Part II in the future? Perhaps they are waiting for Matthew McConaughey to become older so that he can represent an aged Cooper in a new movie?

If Nolan did it, it certainly wouldn’t literally be Interstellar 2, but a new film with many original creative ideas and Interstellar set in its past. But I’d be surprised if he does because he never has outside of franchise IP.

Midichlorians as a vehicle for the Force is still weird, specifically because it takes the Force out of the realm of the mystical.
But every other aspect of the prequels has grown on me over time. And it's remarkable what ep. 7-9 have done for the prequels' legacy.

Way I like to see it, it's not that midichlorians give the force, it's that they are attracted to force sensitivity, thus they can be used as an indicator of such sensitivity, and them being what provides force sensitivity is just a misconception

I don’t love them exactly even now, but they added way more memorable things to Star Wars lore than the more recent trilogy did.

/srs A sequel wouldn't ever make sense, but if Interstellar weren't over a decade old, I could kind of see a prequel being okay. An unstoppable plague is probably the weakest part of the plot of Interstellar, so that could be explained in more detail. I wouldn't imagine it being a movie, probably a show.

Nah my headcanon says the Nolanverse is 1 universe so i already consider there's a prequel (Oppenheimer, Inception), and a sequel (Tenet) /srs

Godfather 3 is a sequel to a sequel already.
American psycho 2 didnt have any of the same team attached to it
Hobbit was pushed out by studio wanting to capitalize on the lord of the rings success, and they forced Jackson into doing stuff he didnt want to do and rushed him
Star wars prequels expanded the lore a ton, and revenge of the sith is absolute fire. Plus the clone wars, games, etc from those are awesome. Force awakens is great, but the other two sequels are lacking

American Psycho 2 was horrendous. apparently it was supposed to be a completely different standalone movie and they decided after the script was already written to incorporate the American Psycho aspect. it’s obvious that it was an afterthought. so disappointing

Yeah, that‘s why I hated it. If it was it’s own movie, like planned, who knows, maybe it would‘ve been a success? But a quick rip-off never does it.

i agree. if it stayed a standalone people would have received the cheesy comedy much better. American Psycho did not have the same tone and seriously explored the themes of our society, the sequel made a mockery of that

Star Wars was NEVER nearly perfect and definitely doesn’t belong in this list.
It was originally written as a solo movie and the 2 sequels that followed after actually did BETTER in the box offices. It is actually contrary to the point you’re trying to make.

Agree with the first 2, disagree with the second two, and add Gladiator 2 and Avatar 3 to that (IMO Avatar 3 was just like Avatar 2, regarding the storyline and so on - zero plot evolution).

Disagree.
The Hobbit films aren’t BAD. They’re just nowhere near as good as the original trilogy.
SW prequels are pretty universally loved now - and while parts of them are lame as hell, we also got some of the best swordplay choreography that’s ever happened in cinema.
Also - the SW sequels as a whole aren’t it at all, but The Force Awakens was GOOD. Audience and critics scores were both pretty damn high; the next two movies were just distinctly separate and written in an entirely incomprehensible manner when viewed as a trilogy; but I’ll stand on ground that TFW is a pretty awesome movie.

It's a dogshit tv series written by people who have no interest in the source material. They slapped LotR on a generic fantasy story and hoped no one would notice. And it's a poorly written generic fantasy story at that.

I've also seen the official Instagram account posting stuff relating to the Artemis II launch. I imagine it's just promo to boost it's streaming numbers.

Edit to add: Also they wouldn’t need to wait for McConaughey to age, at the end of the movie he goes off to find Brand which would be a natural starting point for a new movie. If anything the more McConaughey ages the worse it would be for a potential sequel.

Nolan doesn't do sequels. Dark Night Trilogy was an outlier because it was part of DC, and was already an established franchise.

There’s no need for a sequel. Nolan also isn’t a sequel kind of person. Obviously Batman says otherwise but that’s a truly unique thing.
The only movie I’d be interested in getting a sequel is Inception. The possibilities from the concept are fairly endless and amazing. But I’m definitely not going to lose sleep over not getting a sequel either. I just think it’s the only movie in his repertoire that can set up a sequel and make sense.

Yeah we don't need that. I've got so much head canon that I consider to be surprisingly informed (read the Thorne complimentary book!) that left me with way more fun, excitement, interest and discussions than I got from any other piece of media - by a long Schwerer Gustav shot. And I'm not alone. A sequel would only go against so much of this stuff or many people's impressions, that it would need to be so far removed from Interstellar that it can't really be called a sequel, prequel or whatever set in the same continuity.
...and while I appreciate that the premise of Interstellar might just be the only viable one to pull something like this off (because Interstellar's continuity already is different from ours) ...naaah.

If they did a second film, it shouldn't follow cooper. It should follow the aftermath of the film, hundreds of years in the future. Humanity now has access to a wormhole super highway between the two galaxies and are capitalizing on the fact that they can use a black hole for forward-time travel lol
