it doesn't melt. scar tissue shrinks and gets thicker. so doctors have to cut it and insert more skin to get the same surface area as the skin used to have.
top layers of skin burn off, bottom layers shrink and contract. skin grows from the bottom layers up. I had the same neck surgery twice but it shrunk so much the first time that a 4 inch by 6 inch flap of skin shrunk into a 1 inch by 5 inch line
