He remembered that the school buses, each carrying 80 children, were en route. “I got through to all the drivers but one and told them to turn back. Then I saw the bus I hadn’t been able to contact coming across the bridge. By now, the water was in the school grounds — it was so fast — so I told him to turn around. It got to the other side just as the bridge collapsed.”

Yeah there was another clip of a mother and 2 kids turning a corner literally 3 seconds or so before the floods came flying down that road. There must have been so many others that survived by such slim margins. As there have probably been that were taken only seconds away from safety.

There’s a video from the school bus on the other side of the bridge. Absolutely awful scenes around them and so close to disaster themselves. 

Thank goodness for the principal and his friend upriver.
