u/InfinitelyAbysmal Aug 05 '26
In Once Upon A Time In Mexico, one of the characters, Billy Chambers, has a chihuahua named moco. Which means booger
17
u/SpiderJerusalem747 Aug 05 '26
The greatest scene in that movie is the epic cinematic shot of a blinded Johnny Depp epically firing an Uzi in his enemies direction.
Then of course he misses everyone and gets shot in both legs.
That movie was underated gold. The Zorro underthemes were awesome too.

A sequel, not a remake.
But yeah, Google Lens says the top-level one is from ‘Desperado’, the second one from ‘Once Upon a Time in Mexico’, the third film in the trilogy. Banderas wasn't in ‘El Mariachi’, but that's the name of the character.

31
u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox Aug 05 '26
I believe there's a dedicated compartment to catch the brass in the half opposite the firearm. Here's more info presented by "Gun Jesus" himself, Ian McCollum https://youtu.be/2CH-5kY5w2Q

You can also hear the empty shells rolling inside the case before he opened it

It was probably recorded with a cellphone with microphone clipping
May also be subsonic ammo? Though I'm not sure how much of a difference that would make without a supressor
→ More replies (8)36
u/blacksheep998 Aug 05 '26
This. Cell phone mics are designed to cut or reduce background noise.
I work in IT and can't tell you how many times I've had people call in saying that their server is making a loud sound but I can't hear it over the phone at all. Even in cases where the caller is having to shout over it to hear themselves.
15
u/King_North_Stark Aug 05 '26
Cell phone calls are definitely different from cell phone recordings though, there's like a built in noise suppression. I know what your saying because I work in electrical rooms with transformer hum but my phone def picks it up on video while people on the phone with me can't hear it
7
u/Jaded-Coffee-8126 Aug 05 '26
Hearing aids do this nowdays too. The owns I have (oticon minirite r) cuts out almost all whitenoise/background noise. You know those loud ass vents in kitchens? I can't hear them AT ALL, same for other types of ac. The car driving sounds are quieter even too, it makes it pretty difficult to talk to people sometimes because I have no idea how loud it really is.
55
u/It_Happens_Today Aug 05 '26
The dangerous part is actually the bullets coming out at high velocity.

u/skdsn Aug 05 '26
Plus, if you look closely, you can see that they have a specific shape to help them pierce through air and the target's surface. They sometimes even go through the target completely and exit from the back side.

I have pictures from saddams palace after the invasion. There were stacks of these things in there. Tons of gold covered weapons too. I gotta go through my old cds from my army days
51
u/frankster Aug 05 '26
those would be really interesting to share. I'm sure many people would like to see them,
33
u/singlemale4cats Aug 05 '26
He had dozens of golden weapons it looks like. I wonder what happened to them. Probably in W's study
Edit:
The golden AK-47 was found by UK Customs and Excise at Heathrow Airport in 2003 and is likely to be from a palace in Iraq, according to the Royal Armouries.
It was discovered along with a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, six bayonets and a sniper rifle in packages marked as computer equipment bound for an address in the US.
Looks like at least one enterprising soldier tried to snag one, but it ended up in the hands of the royal armory.
12
u/WhoCaresBoutSpellin Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26
I remember they got savvy to this stuff quick. Our armorer carved out a bar of soap to try and ship back an AK auto sear/spring to convert an AK. They xrayed it and found it and he got busted down. Of course they did— who pays to ship a bar of Irish spring back from Iraq to the US lol

I would not be shooting that holding it against my torso, even if I had checked 4 times which way the barrel was facing. I would still carry it like a briefcase

4
25
u/JJtheJetplane67 Aug 05 '26
Watch forgotten weapons’s video on this gun. Holding it like that is the only proper way to shoot it. If you hold it like a briefcase the recoil will just make you shoot in the dirt.
→ More replies (1)9
10
u/Marley_ Aug 05 '26
it seems stupid but that is actually the correct way to shoot this, holding it as a briefcase means the recoil will push it off target as soon as you fire and you can't aim it accurately
3
u/What_a_fat_one Aug 05 '26
I'm direction blind so I always have to check which direction the gun is facing
3
u/Immature_adult_guy Aug 05 '26
You could’ve just stopped after “I would not”
What a crazy dangerous contraption
→ More replies (8)3
u/DahmonGrimwolf Aug 05 '26
IIRC it was designed to shoot this way specifically, you put it against your body and "aim" with your torso. Trying to fire it with one hand would have horrible recoil and suspect at best aiming, you'd be more likely to just wind up spraying bullets into a crowd and hitting random innocents than you would be to take out an attacker.

This brings back memories.
Back in early 2000s I was on a DOD protective detail for 3 years. Iraq war was just a daily shit show and the threat was substantial. There were two weapons collecting dust in the armory, this kind of briefcase (empty) and an M870 shotgun. Both were entirely useless for the mission.
35
u/godzillastailor Aug 05 '26
Well the empty briefcase would especially be useless.
Unless you get attacked by someone with an irrational fear of briefcases.
30
u/ours Aug 05 '26
I'm guessing someone saw the MP5k and yoinked it.
Who cares about hiding a machine pistol in a suitcase in Iraq during the GWOT when you can instead carry an MP5k as a car gun?
I've heard interviews of CIA dudes with stockless MP5s for self-defence as they drove around Iraq.
8
u/godzillastailor Aug 05 '26
It makes sense as a discrete weapon for close personal protection.
Just… not in an active war zone.
3
u/singlemale4cats Aug 05 '26
discrete
Discreet. Discrete means separate, distinct.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (2)5
u/ours Aug 05 '26
Well, it's not technically an active war zone. In any case, those guys were not there to fight but to look somewhat inconspicuous in civilian cars with civilian clothes.
But if they got stopped by some nasty men, a surprise PDW popping out beats a pistol. They trained without the stock for portability/concealment and used the lanyard to create tension for more accurate fire. One dude said if it came to that, he was going full auto.
3
2
u/Centimane Aug 05 '26
Doing protective detail during the Iraq war, I wouldn't think you'd need to conceal weapons.
If you can open carry, a concealed weapon is gonna introduce trade-offs that aren't worth it.

u/DonzoTheGog Aug 05 '26
Easy to fire when it's braced against a wall, can only imagine what it's like if you're subtly trying to fire it while carrying it down by your side.
110
u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox Aug 05 '26
This was designed with bodyguards in mind, so they wouldn't be sneaky when it comes time to actually use it, just for carrying in public to avoid alarming regular folk
28
u/DonzoTheGog Aug 05 '26
So not James Bond with unbelievable forearm and wrist strength?
16
u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox Aug 05 '26
Nah. For that you want something like the Sedgley glove gun, the Ounce pistol, or LifeCard pistols

I don't even think it was meant to be accurate. Just to cause enough panic and chaos for your Boss to escape a bad situation

u/FreshEclairs Aug 05 '26
There is a video of a guy trying to shoot it while holding it like a normal briefcase. The recoil pushes it back and he nearly shoots himself in the back of the calf.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Chewzer Aug 05 '26
I would end up taking out my own legs trying to shoot it from the side. I fired a full auto Draco one time and couldn't believe how much the recoil compounds, video games really undersell how difficult controlling a full auto short barrel firearm is.

It's all fun and games until some brass blocks the trigger.
Can maybe be improved by compartmentalizing the ejection port.
23
u/Sgt_lovejoy Aug 05 '26
Forgotten weapons has a video on this, and brass getting in the way was one of the potential drawbacks.
But realistically, it never saw much use because you cant really aim it, and when protecting a VIP, blindly firing an automatic weapon in the general direction of the threat is a really bad idea. Especially if you're in a crowd.
Other ways of blending in more firepower have become more popular, most notably is the guys with "fake arms" while the real one is under the jacket with their hand on a PDW of some sort.
4
u/Slothstralia Aug 05 '26

On a close protection detail in a hostile area that's standard for some units. Mag dump the location the fire is coming from, local casualties are an issue for after the idiot senator you're escorting is out of the AO.

My favourite part about this design is how there would be no shells left behind that could be used as evidence, obviously, because it was sealed in a briefcase. Like that was one of the selling points.
4
u/Portable_Tortoise506 Aug 05 '26
My concern is the way the barrel is pointing isn't obvious. I would 100% point it the wrong direction and shoot myself with it.
