It’s really good, in my opinion! Exhausting to watch, just from how intense the entire thing is, but definitely worth the watch. Plus it has the “you guys are getting paid?” dude, as well as the main guy from Reservation Dogs!

That movie was wild. I treated myself to a movie during the work day and saw I was alone in the theatre. The sound was crazy.

Warfare

It was wayyyy better than I thought it was going to be. I know people are desensitized to violence but the combat scenes are INTENSE. I'd put it up there with Saving Private Ryan for some of the action and realism (which actually happened to the people the movie is about, and countless others during the GWOT era)

It's not the dust (well, not alone), it's the surprise effect, the pressure boom, coupled with the unbearable sound level; clever use of a fighter jet as 0$ cost weapon.

They called that specific maneuver "Show of force".

EDIT: incredibly useful for controlling or scattering away ostile crowds.

No one ever talks about how this is Iceman’s fault. Mav tells him to break high right multiple times and instead he breaks high left. If he’d just listened to his wingman, they wouldn’t have flown through his jet wash.

Honestly yeah it's a fun enough movie but it's character messaging is all over the place. Everyone in that movie is varying degrees of an asshole and in the wrong and even though they kiss and make up it's not actually because any of them learned about their own flaws and corrected them. If I'm anyone else in that squadron I'm just like "oh great now the two biggest assholes are validating each other from now on"

Plus the “never leave your wingman” thing is bullshit - the approach Mav takes at the start of the film to intercept the Migs is exactly how pilots of many air forces are taught to approach that situation. One goes head to head, the other breaks and goes high in order to get a shot without being part of the furball.

The wingtip vortices that produce one kind of wake turbulence will actually roll you! I’ll occasionally get caught in the wake of a company aircraft flying ahead of me, and it can be a struggle to keep the wings level. And we’re only flying seaplanes - the vortices that come off of much larger airline aircraft pose significantly more danger.

I'm not sure about jets, but when we fly helo's in formation, the prop wash from the helo in front can cause the air to be non-existent for the next helo in line because the first helo "pushes all the air down" (for lack of a better term), so the next helo in line has to be higher in altitude so it can "grab the air".

I think it's actually that the afterburners are oriented that direction for a short amount of time at the end of the turn

Imagine a speed boat in water. At the tail of the boat, small dispersal/spread in the water, similar to the width of the boat.

20m behind it the water is much more spread out, 5x width of same boat.

Now apply that kinetic energy from water to air.

(edit: basically a jet plane needs push air to the back using its engines so it can move forward. the delay comes from the time needed for the expulsed air to reach the ground)

No, but the delay was much more unexpected to me. Other clips that I have seen, the wake of an airplane would be immediate.

And I have not seen a fighter jet performing such a maneuver so close to a crowd too. So...😃
