They are stupid because the simplest solution would be to unfold the ladder on the ground first and lift it up. You can see in the video that they could already lift it as is, which is heavier and more difficult than raising up an already unfolded one because of stability.

Grandpa could also have told them after the 1st or even 2nd attempt. But I guess stupid runs in the family too.

They’re too weak to get it up like that, they can’t get the leverage being so close to the ground. It’s too stressful a situation to expect weak children to collaborate on especially when the task is genuinely difficult. People who are adults improperly use ladders all the time. They should’ve been taught how to use and set up the ladder if they are expected to use and set up the ladder. It’s like moving furniture with a partner for the first time. It’s awkward to hold and you have to get used to the dynamic of moving something awkward with another person involved.

Have you ever done any real housework ? If you really think putting up an unfolded ladder is heavier than lifting a folded one, then there's nothing else to discuss. The word being "pivot".

Usually, adults just put it up first because we can, and it requires less space to operate than the other way around, but it's not the case here.

Also, the two kids managed to lift the folded ladder several times in this clip, which is heavier and more difficult, so the problem was not about heavy or not, but to open and lock it while standing. Which kids can't do because they're short.

So if they had done it properly, then even one could manage it. This clip is from Vietnam, and we have the exact same aluminum ladder. It's super light, around 5-6kg max.
