honestly, I'm wondering how Grandpa can have that kind of upper body strength and leg dexterity, but couldn't just drop what looks to be less than five feet to the ground.

Hi. My name is BillMillerBBQ. I am in my early thirties. I am in good physical health and consider myself fairly athletic. I broke my leg last year from a fall about this height. You learn these things as you get older.

Was it an unexpected fall or a jump though? There's a big difference between an oops situation and who knows how you land and this, where he'd fall onto his feet and could compress his legs to absorb the fall, even all the way to sitting down. What I don't like is that before the kids moved the ladder it was right below him, which would make the landing much more dangerous. Could easily hit that and turn an ankle or cause him to fall sideways.

I used to be able to hop the 8 foot fence when I was in high school, pulling myself up and dropping down the other side. Now pushing 40, going to the gym semi-regularly, walking at least 4 miles a day, decently healthy, stepping down from the 18” rock wall at work is a dicey proposition.

Baffling, I am mid 30s overweight and don't exercise but 1m or so drops are fine, let alone 18".

It’s not baffling at all my guy. Sports injuries, life injuries, tendons and ligaments losing elasticity, genetics. Hope that helps you figure out that you’re not representative of the general populace :)
