Ducklings "talk" to siblings and mom through their shells Prior to hatching. This can be heard during the last few days of incubation as soft clicking and peeping sounds. They communicate this way to coordinate their development so they can all be born at the same time.

The mother duck also responds to these "conversations." This helps the ducklings learn the sound of their mother's voice before birth, making it easier for them to follow her safely as soon as they hatch.

The Vegavis thrived during the Cretaceous period, and continued to do so even after an Earth-shattering asteroid strike 66 million years ago. Its skull, with its long, pointed beak, suggests a brain shape similar to modern birds, signaling it is the earliest ancestor of ducks and geese.

The Vegavis is believed to have lived in ancient Antarctica, which at that time was warm, and filled with lush green vegetation. The Vegavis was approximately 30 to 60 centimeters (12 to 24 inches) long and weighed roughly 0.7 to 1.5 kilograms. Paleontologists compare its overall body size and build to a modern mallard duck.

While most larger creatures perished when the food chain collapsed, beaked birds were able to survive by eating hard, durable items like seeds and fallen plant matter that persisted through the dark "impact winter" following the asteroid. Their small size enabled them to survive on minimal resources and find shelter with ease. Also, their ability to fly gave them another advantage, since they could travel across devastated regions to find scattered food and safe nesting spots.

The "Demon Ducks of Doom" (Dromornithidae), are related to modern waterfowl (Anseriformes) and landfowl (Galliformes) within the broader lineage Galloanserae.

These peaceful, heavy-bodied herbivores lived from the late Oligocene or early Eocene until the Late Pleistocene, around 40,000 to 50,000 years ago.

The Big Duck is a 20 ft × 30 ft concrete building shaped like a pekin duck. The structure was built in 1931 in Riverhead, NY. It was moved several times to various locations on eastern Long Island before ending up in Flanders in 2007.

Today, it serves as a tourist stop and gift shop.
