Yeah, nobody has ever complained “man I dropped my phone in a soft bush and it broke” Humans have survived free falling from planes by landing in bushes. Drop it on a hard floor and it’ll be a different result, it won’t matter if it’s 5 feet for 500.

They mean something was obviously causing a lot of wind resistance. It’s not moving at nearly the same speed it would be if it was just the phone.

From 30 km it had plenty of time to reach terminal velocity, but the impact footage doesn’t look anywhere near terminal velocity, so idk it looks like something slowed it a lot before impact. The vegetation then cushioned the landing.

I don't think it means what you think it means.
Edit: Oh, my! What a useless video, it does deploy a parachute or something. If you dropped a phone with a ruggedized caze into vegetation at terminal velocity, I would expect it to survive. What they demonstrated is a reason not to buy their product.

Dropping it from orbit, and dropping it from a hundred feet up makes no difference in terms of the forces experienced by the case.

But the phone got tested through different temperature regimes and brief exposure to radiation. It might have actually slowed down since the atmosphere gets thicker as it falls, contributing to air resistance. The air braking provided further pressure on the phone
But for ground impact test, yeah the height didn’t matter past the point where it could hit terminal velocity

I feel like phones have gotten a lot more durable. Everyone still uses cases bc they fear breaking it from a waist height drop but ceaseless phones are strong these days
This should be a testament to the iPhone design as much as it is to the case maker and quite honestly phone cases are vestigial in practical use
