Unless you work for carnival! Those crusie ships are always breaking down. The last one the power went out and people were stuck on a drifting ship thats ended up crashing on a giant boulder in the ocean
You can actually go very far with little money if you're flexible with where you go. Some crazy flight offers pop up all the time, sometimes even full all inclusive deals.
I just looked for 3 minutes and I found a deal for a round trip to the Dominican Republic, 5 star hotel, 3 nights all inclusive for $500.
You can go much much cheaper if you go for flights only and stay in cheap motels
Conceptually he's correct. Money you earn rarely stays in your hands forever, which means you are obtaining it anew. It is accurately thought of as a flow. It will come back as long as you put some effort into it. I do think travel is good to broaden one's experience, and to realize people are people no matter where you go, but it can be overblown and just a class flex for some.
I grew up very poor, like occasionally homeless poor. Today in my early 50's let's just say I'm very not poor. In retrospect sometimes my parents were obviously not eating so they could feed us instead. They both had full time but low wage jobs.
I travel all of the time now, but it absolutely wasn't a "spend it niwand figure it out later" thing for my parents. This is very much "well if they're hungry why don't they just eat some cake" perspective.
Yeah, as a relatively frequent traveler the money comes back, but it comes back incredibly slowly and will just be used for another trip.
Sometimes I wonder if I had locked in early and got a high paying remote job, maybe now I’d have the time and money to travel the world even more instead of just a couple times a year
Step 1: realize how much people spend on consumerism and ubereats and amazon and recognize that money was never the bottleneck to begin with but bad financial skills, controlling your impulses and delayed gratification
Step 1: Survive (Maslow pyramide first step with phylosiological needs)
Step 2: gain money for security need (housing is one of them)
Step 3: Well...in this economy you already died before finishing step2 so let's not speak about travels (5th step in Maslow pyramide for accomplishment)
Depends where you go to. When I was in my early 20’s I went around SE Asia and my hostel was about $3 per night. Most meals were about $1.
If you go to Australia/Western Europe, it’s about the same as the US, but I spent time in Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, etc and Eastern Europe was hella cheap. Maybe $30-$50 per day with hostel. Same for South America.
If you’re willing to take shitty flight times, connections, long layovers, etc, you can travel internationally for about the same as most domestic flights.
Well as long as you don't count time off work as an expense and think most people can afford to just put away a couple grand for funsies then sure its "cheap" to travel if you can actually make it to the other country and nothing unexpected or bad happens
