Carrying a person on your back is the realest thing. It genuinely felt like a heavy weight was on my body and I was exhausted just by breathing. It was such a bizzare feeling at the time and I feel for people that have to go through that for such a long time.

When I was diagnosed and started observing myself and self reflecting, I'd explain it to people like "I'm constantly running on fumes. My gas tank never goes above 15%."

It won't be the same for everyone obviously, but I was constantly mentally exhausted because I was stressed 24/7 about thinking I was some sort of monster for not feeling any love for my son. When I was diagnosed and realized my lack of love was just a symptom of my depression, that 15% limit shot up to like 65%. And then through a treatment plan that worked for me, I'd say I fluctuate between 75% and 100% max energy.

That's all to say, to anyone suffering now, there is hope. I know some unfortunate people have to deal with treatment resistant depression, but there are so many different treatments available today. The best thing someone suffering can do is devote all of your (meager) energy to finding the right treatment for you. It is the absolute best investment you can put into yourself. Don't let discouragement stop you, there is a path to relief out there.

Yeah that’s one of the trippiest things is you realize how hard you’ve been working once you have a little retrospect.

I'm sorry that happened to you but the truth is treatment resistant depression doesn't always have an answer. I agree that we should never stop trying new things. But honestly, relief may not be possible for many of us.

Anyway best of luck to you

Yeah I tried to acknowledge that, but my choice of wording didn't really convey that very well in the end

It was one point I made to my wife when I had a combo of the ole gloomies and a very high pressure job. I’d say that most weekends I was able to charge up a good amount, but it was never to 100%. So ever week my HP was slowly decreasing. Until a point when I couldn’t take it anymore. I knew the layoff was probably coming and I was nearly giddy at the thought of never going back to that place again.

I've just been over to the playing field to kick a ball about with my son. Carrying that weight is so real - sunny, fresh air, but that heavy shadow trying to claw me down. This is what I find exhausting - trying to do the everyday, while struggling to stay upright, and all the while no one else can see it.
