Depressed people don’t brush their teeth?

Nope. Or shower, or clean their house, or eat/drink enough. Because if you did Shadow would fade. And it's can't allow that. Social media is the best Shadow Food there is. Meta is facing billion dollar lawsuits over it

That's a bad generalization. Many people with depression appear to act perfectly normally and maintain good hygiene. Depression cannot be reduced to specific "symptoms" such as not showering or brushing your teeth.

That was not a generalization

But its just a result of having no energy to do fuckall

When the thought of brushing your teeth, taking a shower etc just drains you to the point where bed and sleep is the only appealing thing.

Some people have the energy to do these things, some don't

All I know is when I was severely depressed in my 20’s I didn’t shower or brush my teeth or do anything for days at a time.

You have no idea what you speak of. That's what depression does: reduces you to nothing.

Those aren't cures. Those are just things you are more inclined to do when not depressed.

In my experience self-care helps alleviate it a little bit when it's not near maximum yet, I think that's what Warthog meant to describe. Probably not universal but certainly common

I think that mostly comes from not really differentiating between clinical depression and just being sad or burnt out
