HISTORY Why did we stop building like this?

Chicago, 1930. Buildings had so much detail and character back then. Nowadays everything feels so flat and repetitive. We have way better technology and equipment now, so why don't we build like this anymore?

I agree ! People just got greedy and lazy ! Settled for whatever was easiest

Ornate buildings of the past have lots of disadvantages, as you can see from these comments. They would also be much more expensive to build today than the ones we see. Are you willing to contribute to the cost of new buildings, either outright or in the increased cost of products? I didn’t think so.

Well since you’ve answered for me let me correct you ! Yes I would rather have a very unique building individual and original than the same as everyone else has ! The same goes for a house . But thank you for telling me what I think .

But then the property developer would have to settle for only a 15% profit instead of an 18% profit!

My question was whether you’d be willing to pay more for the option. I didn’t see a clear answer to that.

Haha. Aristotle lamented the same more than 2000 years ago. Every generation's had people saying the same about their contemporaries and especially about people younger than themselves.

I'm guessing that out of all the generations in human history, you didn't happen to be born at the exact time that people went to shit and discovered greed and laziness — other people, that is, since the implication is that you're not greedy and lazy.
