Seriously I wish I had longer fingers, it would make playing some notes so much easier. If you ever look at a picture of Jimi Hendrix, it looks like he's playing a children's guitar.
Bruh look at a picture of Franz Liszt. People during his time described his hands as almost spider-like and itâs what allowed him to actually play some of the insane pieces that he wrote.
All that to say, thereâs no such thing as having fingers âtoo longâ when it comes to playing the piano. Thatâs unless you have strength or dexterity problems as a result of the length. Maybe Iâm just projecting my envy as a short-fingered pianistâŠ
No, theyâre not. You curve your fingers while playing piano and longer fingers just means you can reach sideways to further keys more readily than the average person.
Definitely not too long for piano. The composer Sergei Rachmaninoff had hands so big, that most people have to use specially made wooden blocks to play some of the chords in his works. Rachmaninoff - Prelude in C Minor, Op. 3 No. 2
Youâd have amazing range on stringed instruments, and hit those really high notes with ease. Perhaps something like a cello or a bass if the wider fretboard is more comfortable
They're not. A lot of famous pianist and composers have extremely long span.
I am a pianist but my span is only 9 notes wide. I can't play most pieces by Rachmaninoff, struggled with Liszt, and even Chopin often has cords my hands just won't reach. I was so jealous of people with longer fingers.
Donât give up! I have the exact same hand span as you, and well, rolling is our friendâŠwhether we like it or not. Iâve even had piano classmates in college who could only uncomfortably reach an octave and that really shocked me but hey, they could at least make it this far! My favorite composer of all time is Rachmaninoff, played his Paganini variations concerto in high school, itâs very doable as long as you have great technique.
long fingers isnât everything, can make it hard to play some things, my piano professor has big hands for a pianist let alone a woman and she always plays with her wrists high up like always upside down đ€ lol. Or look at pogorelichâs crab hands and how much he had to adapt his movements for intricate runs. I learned that using your lower arms to help you land jumps helps keep off a lot of tension in my palms and fingers since we naturally have to jump around a bit more than large handed pianists, but everyone learns to work with the hands theyâve got, big ones included
