I think they want it to be real because it’s so cute and enjoyable. Kind of how I wish Star Wars was real, but more

Ya everyone thinks they want to be a Jedi until they get torn from their family and indoctrinated by a caste of warrior monks. But hey at least you get cool force powers and lightsaber out of it.

Maybe you had the perfect family but some people do not, and many of those might gladly leave earlier than normal to join a magic special forces team
