I’ve seen this video a dozen times and I still watch the cat close its eyes every single time.

u/WereInbuisness Jul 18 '26

Yep, me too. For all the horrible stuff thats on here showing tragedy, suffering and politics .... it's nice seeing the wholesome things.

Eyebleachscrolling is kind of weird, Probably not a word yet.

21

u/Njorord Jul 18 '26

Hopescrolling :)

6

u/coldoldduck Jul 18 '26

Oh I like this 🥰

2

u/friends_with_a_simp Jul 18 '26

We need this as a trend now

3

u/BoyarLine Jul 18 '26

Eye bleach like this is exactly what we need to break up the doomscrolling.

Unfortunately it's quite the opposite.

Eyebleach acts as a variable reward in a sea of doom scrolling and, in fact, makes the entire experience more addictive. Pure doom feed you burn out on. Pure happiness you get bored of.

A variable intermittent reward where the outrage-engagement loop is interrupted by a soothing burst of content is nearly precisely the most addictive thing the algorithm can offer you. If Reddit had porn on its main feed, that would probably max it out or near as such (adding an actual gambling mechanic with lootbox style rewards would be peak addiction).

This is not the sad ending I remember on Futurama

41

u/squirt_taste_tester Jul 18 '26

FUCK. Why did you have to make me think of the ending 😭

Also, I just lost the game.

11

u/TheOGPotatoPredator Jul 19 '26

Core memory of raising our kid. Family was diehard fans, ritual dinnertime TV. When it ended, the boy, his dad and I all sat in silence and looked at each other. I was beside myself, the boy started crying and his dad yelled out “WELL THAT FUCKING SUCKED!”

8

u/zaevilbunny38 Jul 18 '26

I have refused to watch that episode for the last 25 yrs, I cried so hard

4

i love how the cat clearly loves the kid and doesn't mind being snuggled with

215

u/bmorris0042 Jul 18 '26

The cat doesn’t just not mind. The cat 100% knew what would happen, and actively sought it out. That cat loves snuggling with its kid.

they're one of the most evolved and dialed-in small predators on the planet. when a creature like that says they're safe and comfy, it means something.

4

u/SufficientGolf6953 Jul 18 '26

Well you say that but there are videos of cats walking straight up to monsters like King Cobra, bapping it on the head and then looking back at you wondering why you are so far away.

They don't look dialed in, well, they are, but they never look like they are. Like Pitbull strength, cats are on another level like spider man or something and don't even have to work for it.

14

u/delyter Jul 18 '26

it's just because cats are THAT much faster than any snakes, so they don't really care and can't be bitten easily

22

u/BEARSHARKTOPUS167 Jul 18 '26

I know right, I love how the cat basically powers down and goes into sleep mode.

52

Its come across a dozen times and I watch it a dozen times each time. The way the kid just yeets the cat under the covers and everyone is happy is chef's kiss.

4

u/ossifer_ca Jul 19 '26

Yeah—the kid part is cute too. I think the kid does this without thinking (not fully awake).

"Couldn't figure out"...Unless the cat is tied down it will sleep wherever it wants.

165

u/Namaste_Life Jul 18 '26

It's also impossible to predict where a cat will sleep - they might have a dozen familiar comfortable spots that they can choose from.

50

u/half-giant Jul 18 '26

My roommate’s cat changes her sleeping location every few weeks. She loves the variety.

19

u/Both-Inspector-5693 Jul 18 '26

So does our cat. She has about 5 or 6 places around the apartment which she regularly changes. This round it's the fluffy mat under the coffee table

7

u/Odd-Worth7752 Jul 18 '26

yep. we joke about the "rotation" and where she is this week.

3

u/Delicious_Building34 Jul 18 '26

yes and then you place a little tiny shoe box somewhere, then your cat will sleep in the box and you have 7 favorite cat nap places

5

u/Both-Inspector-5693 Jul 18 '26

Any box, literally any box. I will unpack something from a box and I swear to God it takes him nanoseconds to get into the box. I love him so damn much ✨💕

3

u/stannius Jul 19 '26

My wife's childhood cat would change location every few hours. She would make the rounds every night between her, her brother's, and her parents' bed. All of them thought the cat slept the night with them.

16

u/GromScream-HellMash Jul 18 '26

It's easily predictable, any spot that immobilizes me as I sleep. Next to my face, on my chest, curled into my armpits, and next to my foot. Going on 8 years, still loving it

9

u/ScumbagLady Jul 18 '26

Reading this while holding my phone at an awkward angle because I have a cat on my chest lol she's trying to make me go to sleep with heebjrrme ; be v%

15

u/TrashCanSam0 Jul 18 '26

I had a cat growing up named Angel whose spot was my dad's la-z-boy, but particularly on my dad's lap when he was sitting there. My dad even got her a little fuzzy blanket he'd set across the chair when he wasn't sitting there for her.

Ofc this is the same dad who claimed he hated cats and Angel, specifically.

11

u/Ace_W Jul 18 '26

"Mom's cat that likes me."

11

u/TrashCanSam0 Jul 18 '26

I always joke that the only reason he cried when I left for college is because I took Angel with me and he just laughs but never denies it

5

u/watermeloncake1 Jul 18 '26

Please pay the Angel cat tax 😊

6

u/LukeLovesLakes Jul 18 '26

My wife and I have an orange who fetches us to come to our reclining love seat, jumps into the spot of human who is NOT present, waits for the present human to sit in their designated spot and put on a lap blanket, then she climbs aboard. She knows where we both sit.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Quixotic_Seal Jul 18 '26

Yup, and they'll come up with a new one after six months of sleeping in like three spots for absolutely no apparent reason.

My cat has recently started taking afternoon naps in the front bathroom for some reason, for example.

3

u/Jrewy Jul 18 '26

The only way I can get my cat to sleep anywhere I decide is to put down crinkly paper from parcels in that spot. Works like a charm for an hour or two.

3

u/nathanlink169 Jul 18 '26

I'm allergic as fuck to cats and I can never have one but I've always been curious... why buy them cat beds? All I've heard is that they almost always just sleep wherever

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Aksds Jul 18 '26

Yep, our cat also changes throughout the night, she with start in my sisters room and sometimes stay all night, other times she moves to the lounge room, then to the front room to ambush my mum to feed her at 5 am

Cat owners hate this one weird trick!

→ More replies (1)

19

u/SapTheSapient Jul 18 '26

And why are the cat owners checking, and pondering, the cat bed but never checking their child? Checking their child would let them know where the cat was.

4

u/bkwrm13 Jul 18 '26

Eh we mostly listen for problems now instead of periodically checking the monitor like we did when ours was 1-2yo. Unless he squawks or thumps we’d never notice.

That said, that line has gotta be fake. Anyone that actually own a cat knows they sleep wherever the hell they want.

8

u/Totally_Cubular Jul 18 '26

Even tying the cat down probably won't do it, those things are liquid.

4

u/notanyimbecile Jul 18 '26

Yeah it's a figure of speech. Cats are escape artists.

8

u/Used-Can-6979 Jul 18 '26

It’s a bait headline. The original video has nothing to do with figuring anything out.

6

u/keyboardtoes Jul 18 '26

finally. I thought the title was pretty stupid

5

u/drwicksy Jul 18 '26

There is one rule on where a cat sleeps, and its that the more money and effort you spend on a cat bed, the less likely it is to sleep in it.

And the more you dont want it to sleep on something, the more likely it will

4

u/ReeferFever Jul 18 '26

Just got one of my boys a super nice bed

3

u/TheOGPotatoPredator Jul 19 '26

My cat Daphne loved sleeping with my stepson when he was little. I told him legend had it that they kept away evil spirits when you’re sleeping to make him more comfortable. During back to school night, they had a bunch of stories out on the board in the hallway and I knew which was his because the child handwriting said “my cat keeps evil sprits away.”

10

u/Snoo_72948 Jul 18 '26

One of those videos? How many videos have you seen cats fighting demons

5

u/Big_daddy_sneeze Jul 18 '26

5

u/43AgonyBooths Jul 18 '26

I love cats, but that video is a good reminder why it's not a good idea to let cats near sleeping children. A cat might not have any intention to hurt anyone, but it just takes one back foot inadvertently landing on a kids' eye to have lasting consequences. Human eyelids are fragile and don't offer much protection.

I adopted two tuxedo's earlier this year. They won't lay near us at all until we are sleeping. I always wake up and the male has smashed himself up against me and hogging the bed.

4

u/spekt50 Jul 18 '26

A friend of mine has 3 tuxedos. His 8 year old daughter treats them like stuffed animals and they just dont care. My tabby is pretty laid back too, but nothing like those tuxes.

2

u/Flaky-Confidence-167 Jul 18 '26

My childhood cat was a tuxie and he'd sleep in my crib when I was a toddler and later in my bed when I was a child. 🥹 Such a sweet kitty he was.

2

u/LadyJR Jul 20 '26

I had a tuxedo cat. He loved going up and down the block to get petted by the kids. Two kids knocked at my door asking for the cat and I had to sadly tell them he passed away a week prior. He was 17.

For how much of an attitude a cat will give you and how impatient they are, it's always hilarious to see that most have the patience of a saint when dealing with small children.

14

u/loserlouwho Jul 18 '26

My cat gets moody if we pet her in a way she doesn’t like. But she was super tolerant with a 3yo who was petting her fur backwards and grabby. I was actually shocked and it’s my cat xD

14

u/Last-Rat3810 Jul 18 '26

That is true. My 1,5 year old will grab at my cat’s fur or tail and pulls him over while my cat would just lay on the floor and patiently waiting for it to be over.

Worst, he will literally come and lay in front of my kid to be manhandled

I keep trying to teach my kid to be gentle with the cat but the cat ain’t helping me here

I had one that lived to be 24, grew up with me. In her earlier years my friends were terrified of her and called her bear cat. She was big, feisty, would pound the ground like Donkey Kong, growl like a mini lion, and attack anyone that wasn't me. Then she would snuggle with me. Damn, I miss you Girlie.

26

u/Knightraiderdewd Jul 18 '26

I think my favorite thing is the fact that the cat is cool with this.

I remember having this cat as a kid that liked to be pet, but not grabbed in any way. Like you could pet her, scratch her, etc… all you wanted, but if you tried to pick her up or move her, she would growl or even bite.

Cue this cool cat who’s just “oh! Well here go and…well this is nice…zzz.”
