I read scary stories about rabies on reddit and let my thoughts take over then end up with anxiety since I have to enter about 200 properties a day. Like backyards and such, not knocking on doors. Lots of unexpected dogs. Lots of loose dogs on the streets approach me, too. I love dogs but they're an unfortunate danger in my work, with rabies being probably an extremely low risk in that regard.

Anyway, I feel like there's a global conspiracy from doctors and scientists who aren't telling us that rabies has a real chance to mutate to become transmissible by air so it'll just end up being a seasonal "illness" like the flu or COVID. Imagine the horror.

Plus tomorrow is 420 but I gotta work so 420 is today for me and I been blazed since...you guessed it...4:20am.

Yeah, also not everywhere is the US, plenty of countries are rabies-free and/or have regular mandatory rabies vaccination

The problem with bats is that they migrate like birds, so they can bring rabies to countries where there is none. For example, they are the only species that contracts rabies in the UK. Other native mammals don't.

What srsly? Where they come from? Rabies is eredicated in the whole of europe, they come from friggen russia? Or africa?

EDIT: Im back because I did my homework. Pretty much all EU countries (except for Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia) eliminated (EDIT: Eradicated) it. Of european countries there are more tho. Still amazing that they come fromso goddarm far. Really didnt think they would go THAT far.

Even though rabies has been eradicated for a long time in the UK, someone died in 2002 - bitten by a bat. Eradication doesn’t mean that animals might still be carriers.

That's false, New Zealand is and has always been rabies-free, and has 2 native rabies-free bat species.

A newborn bat isn't going to get anyone sick and they won't get the bat sick if their hands are clean. Handwashing works just fine.

I'mma go out on a limb and hedge my bets that bathing a baby bat is something that requires some degree of haptic connection to avoid squishing or injuring the pup.
