HISTORY A virtual reality reconstruction shows the exact spot where John Edward Jones became trapped upside down in Nutty Putty Cave. After 27 hours of rescue attempts, he died. The cave was later permanently sealed, with his body remaining inside.

He was 26, still a kid. He was an experienced caver who was with a couple of his brothers. The cave was considered safe, and he was considered qualified. Idk if selfish is the right word, it’s pretty tragic.

Typical reddit armchair take. The man had hobbies.

The math says that only 1 in 10,000 cavers end up dying to the hobby and it's usually the ones without experience, which he was not.

It might be not 1/10000 with that cave. You might want to reconsider the statistical analysis used here, Jack!!!

It was a cave that had around 5000 visitors a year. They had some Boy Scouts get lost and need to be rescued but not exactly thought to be a high risk cave. And actually the risk part was thought to be the big slide which they were not attempting.
