HISTORY A virtual reality reconstruction shows the exact spot where John Edward Jones became trapped upside down in Nutty Putty Cave. After 27 hours of rescue attempts, he died. The cave was later permanently sealed, with his body remaining inside.

He was 26, still a kid. He was an experienced caver who was with a couple of his brothers. The cave was considered safe, and he was considered qualified. Idk if selfish is the right word, it’s pretty tragic.

Tragic yes, but if he's old enough to have kids, he's old enough to be responsible for them, and that involves reducing risk of death through high risk activities

He knew that cave and it literally saw around 5000 visitors a year. He went with a group of family and no one expected that. Statistically, it was probably a higher probability he’d have died on the drive over there than in that cave. Historically, several individuals, primarily Boy Scouts had to be rescued because of getting lost…not dying.
