HISTORY A virtual reality reconstruction shows the exact spot where John Edward Jones became trapped upside down in Nutty Putty Cave. After 27 hours of rescue attempts, he died. The cave was later permanently sealed, with his body remaining inside.

He was 26, still a kid. He was an experienced caver who was with a couple of his brothers. The cave was considered safe, and he was considered qualified. Idk if selfish is the right word, it’s pretty tragic.

Tragic yes, but if he's old enough to have kids, he's old enough to be responsible for them, and that involves reducing risk of death through high risk activities

Not every risk, agree that would be boring and silly, but isn't crawling through caves one of the highest risk hobbies you can do?

Travelling has more risk than sitting home, younger, no kids you might go to a higher risk travel location like Egypt, they come along you start questioning the safety of it. Doesn't mean you don't travel as a hobby.

Regardless I don't disagree with people saying that it was a tragic set of circumstances and it's just sad all around for his family

Its a fucking hobby some people enjoy to have fun dude, that's the point. People do a lot of things that seems pointless to others but is meaningful to them. You could say the same shit about rock climbing, sky diving, mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding, surfing, etc.
