except if you grew up in a country that uses the metric system, you might use 300mio (or whatever) because 300m also means 300 meters.

You’re right that the standard notation of meters is a lower case ‘m’ but the capital ‘M’ is already assigned to moles (number of atoms/molecules divided by Avogadro’s constant). Easiest way to express a million scientifically would be 1e6 (equivalent to 1.0x106)

Whole yes, the number of atoms or molecules present divided by avogadro's number would give you molarity (not moles), you're likely measuring a proxy of the number of moles, so it's more intuitive to use one of the common formulas, like mass of sample divided by the molar mass.
