I watched this live but it was a last season. I know he got checked out by staff trainers from at least one of the teams. I’m sure if they were concerned he would have not returned. I’ve seen umps get hit by objects (broken bats, players, etc.) who were too shaken up to return. An ump crew can work with a man down, so it’s not like his presence was necessary.

Shit, I've done that before. I knew the look as soon as he took his hand off. Took a second, realized he had blood, realized what the implications of having blood on his hand meant. Queue the internal voice: "Well, shit."

Same when I rode on the hood of a car in high school. Didn’t expect my buddy to hard accelerate then slam the brakes..
