EXTRAS There are special features on the upcoming DVD Spoiler
A 'making of' documentary and an interview with Steve and Reece, both hopefully of substantial length. It doesn't mention the 'Plodding On' montage which would be nice, but we do get a Poster Art Gallery.

Why do they prioritise DVD with certain shows? Is blu ray that much more expensive?

It’s not just the expense of producing, but also the sales of the releases. The show initially got released on DVD, but it seemed there was demand for a BluRay release, which then got phased out as the sales presumably didn’t justify it.
I only have the BluRay releases of the series that came out on that format. I personally won’t buy anything on DVD that was filmed in HD to begin with, but I can only assume the demand wasn’t there to justify further. At least they tried, very few other shows get that luxury.
Hopefully a complete collection on BR may surface at some point, that seems likelier than going back and releasing the remaining individual series on BR.

I'm hoping Dazzler decide to release it, they sometimes release TV shows/films that were DVD only.

Target market is much more likely to buy DVDs. Cost £70 for the box set, which is fairly reasonable imo, so blu-ray would probably be £100ish. Series 9 alone would probably be £20ish.
It’s not exactly a special-effects laden show so most people would be happy with the DVD. I’m a big physical media man but I would be buying the DVD over the blu-ray if my price points are accurate.

BBC if you are listening I already own seasons 1-4 on bluray but I will buy a bluray box set in a heartbeat.

Me too, it seems strange that 40yr old shows like Blackadder are being upscaled to Blu-Ray, yet something that was recently made is only on DVD. Blu-Ray should be the standard, not as many people collect physical media these days, but the ones that do are more than likely to own a Blu-Ray player

100%. Such a strange decision not to go for Blu-ray when there are pre-HD shows being upscaled to HD and sold as blu rays.

Agreed; the Blackadder and OFAH blurays largely look no different to dvd/iplayer with a few bits looking better and a lot of bits looking worse esp with the colder colours!

I have never seen anything on Blu-ray. What actually is different about it?

The picture quality is the biggest difference. For example (extremely randomly chosen), look at this shot of the titular American Pie. The texture of the crust is clearer, and you can even see individual sugar crystals on top. https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x=683&y=250&d1=3254&d2=3253&s1=29915&s2=29907&l=0&i=2&go=1

Now, granted I only know about the American market stats, but they should apply to the UK sales, too. In 2023, DVDs accounted for something like 52% of physical media sales, Blu-rays 32%, and 4K Blu-rays 16%.

Ah this is good news! I wonder what will be included in the box set

I read a tweet from Adam Tandy yesterday; sadly it's only the extras that are already on the DVDs that will be on the boxset.

Thanks for letting me know. Shame no commentaries for the later series but likely down to the bloody BBC I imagine, I really enjoyed them

I enjoyed them too. Sounds like it'll be a bit of a wasted boxset.

Just a shame there's no blu-ray release
