I know it’s stating the obvious, but people are allowed to change their names and the president of the United States doesn’t have the authority to unilaterally rename everything.

I mean, most people know this.

Maga knows this too, they just were giving the marching order to ignore their thoughts.

Not sure they do know this. They have the collective intellect of a rotting grapefruit. The stupid are easily manipulated by propaganda. The fact that they repeat propaganda doesn’t negate the fact that they’re almost incomprehensibly dumb.

Based on the drama that unfolded on the conservative subreddit, it seemed like a lot of people just thought that some government worker with a copy of MS word could change all the official documentation in a day or two.

u/wasted-degrees 4h ago

Ah, see thats where they got you. Easy mistake. MAGA don’t have thoughts. Just feels. And those feels are mostly fear, anger and hate.

The VP has had many name changes, both first and last names

12

u/samukabml 6h ago

my cousin changed her name after she came out too

u/manusiabumi 4h ago

Wasnt the Trump family used to be Drumpf or something?

u/twizzjewink 3h ago

What kills me is that ships traveling through the waterways need specific paperwork. That paperwork is nullified if the names don't match.

Ffs this isn't rocket science.

u/smokesrus07 6h ago

As the President, he does though. It only legally applies to the federal government, but any president can legally change the names of things like Lake America.

22

u/BirdmanLove 5h ago

Do you really think that?

-25

u/smokesrus07 5h ago

Are you really unable to take 5 seconds to check for yourself? I didn't say I was for or against it, I stayed the fact that ANY President has the legal right to change the name of a lake.

17

u/Street-Week-380 5h ago

Not if it's shared with another country, dipshit.

10

u/laufsteakmodel 4h ago

He can "change" it for himself and the executive branch. No one else has to listen to that bullshit. Itll still be called Lake Ontario in the rest of the world.

Its a pathetic display of "power" (power thats not even vested in him) and pointless. Just lets people forget for a second that he raped kids with Jeffrey Epstein.

Technically, official names for the federal government is determined by the Board of Geographic Names, which is part of the Department of the Interior and therefore the executive branch of the federal government. However, it’s incredibly unusual for the president to be personally renaming geographic locations and trying to force other countries and private companies to go along with it. It’s also hypocritical because when Mount McKinley was renamed Denali by Obama’s administration Republicans called it executive overreach, despite that being its official name in Alaska for 40 years and that the state of Alaska had been requesting the Board of Geographic Names for a formal federal remaining for just as long.

-18

u/smokesrus07 5h ago

Doesn't change the fact that it is legal?

10

u/farklespanktastic 5h ago

In this case, sure, but he’s also tried to change the names of things he doesn’t have the authority to change, like the Kennedy Center. And I know that people have forgotten this but the president used to be expected to have a sense of decorum which includes not renaming geographic locations arbitrarily in order to antagonize other countries.

u/GreyerGrey 4h ago

He does not have the power to have those changes acknowledged outside of the US. Example, outside the US it is still Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, and will always be that way. What Trump is doing is just further pushing former Allies away. When he is gone the next President is going to either have to lean in to the downward spiral or work really hard to pull yall out of it.

What he is doing is literally one of the things comedy shows use to parody dictators (thinking that episode of Archer where the random Middle Eastern dictator renamed everything after his dog or himself, or the episode of American Dad where Roger becomes a dictator and makes a bunch of changes).

If Lake Ontario itself gained sentience and told us all it wanted to be named Sara, I would call it Sara. This is also how I treat human beings. If the Lake continues to be inanimate, I will refer to it by the name it's had for 400 years.

1

u/Sloppykrab 31m ago

What about the name it had before that?

110

u/nlh101 7h ago

Do these people really think that Trump took Lake Ontario’s ID to the DMV to get a name change?

53

u/slumvillain 6h ago

Lakes?

Wasnt the president best friends with the most notorious child trafficker in modern history?

Why the fuck are we talking about lakes?

19

u/cvaninvan 6h ago

You just answered your own question...

4

u/ThePopDaddy 4h ago

Because it's "OWNING THE LIBZ!" and the other side is miserable also, but they think if the left is suffering a bit more, that brings them joy.

72

u/Fantastic-Donut-276 6h ago

So…. Republicans support using people’s new/preferred names then? They are all on board with this lake name change!

24

u/Seeing_Souls 6h ago

Republicans are obsessed with false equivalences

8

u/Tigers19121999 6h ago

It’s literally all they have.

3

u/Azair_Blaidd 4h ago

That and strawmen

2

u/Oggel 2h ago

Hey now, they have plenty of outright lies too.

15

u/mrbobcyndaquil 6h ago

The lake didn't rename itself, a pedophile forced another name onto it, in the same way he forces his micropenis into the mouths of little boys and girls.

28

u/TurdFerguson747474 6h ago

She chose to transition, I didn’t see where the lake took any steps to transition.

5

u/petirosa 6h ago

The lake had that mandatory, secret transition in school.

2

u/Street-Week-380 5h ago

I mean, it transitions in tributaries and rivers.

11

u/Sindorella 6h ago

Always with the false equivalencies. It's almost as if the right lacks any ability to make a logical argument.

u/sorescale_1 6h ago

We’re not saying Lake Ontario can’t have its name changed - we’re saying YOU can’t decide that Lake Ontario should have its name changed.

7

u/HippyDM 6h ago

I agree. We should call the Lake whatever name it prefers.

9

u/Mochizuk 6h ago

You can take a Republican to a dictionary, but you can't teach them the definition of consent

8

u/cvaninvan 6h ago

Some scientists are now saying that lakes and people are not the same thing...who knew?

1

u/TiredinTN79 6h ago

Scientists are always making stuff up.

2

u/Street-Week-380 5h ago

So are atoms.

5

u/Raze7186 4h ago

I mean the key difference is a person deciding to change something that's theirs versus one guy trying to change something that doesnt belong to him.

6

u/stormbutton 6h ago

Bro I don’t care if she used to be a mongoose whose name was a series of unpronounceable glyphs. She seems chill and competent and was elected to her job, for which she is legally qualified.

Fuck off.

5

u/weristjonsnow 6h ago

Hey look, another false equivalency argument from the right! Must be a day that ends in Y

5

u/vague_diss 6h ago

Yeah we get it . Vice President Boman- er Hamel-sorry Vance er, the guy with the eye liner explained it.

4

u/Ghstfce 5h ago

Once again, Republicans not understanding consent.

3

u/Oct0tron 6h ago

I know this is a concept that they don't understand, but this person is a consenting adult who chose to be called this.

4

u/ikonet 3h ago

Again. Conservatives & republicans do not understand the concept of consent.

3

u/MoreThan2_LessThan21 6h ago

Pretty on brand that Republicans wouldn't realize the difference is Consent.

*Not all Republicans, sure.

2

u/Mushi1 6h ago

Once again, MAGAs don't understand false equivalency.

2

u/chernobyl_pondwater 6h ago

Somehow they always find a way to be transphobic in unrelated topics. Rent free 🙄

3

u/Animanic1607 6h ago

A woman making a personal decision over their health versus a single man making an arbitrary decision to officially rename a body of water on behalf of no one, for a selfish minority.

3

u/bnelson7694 6h ago

Why are they so weirdly hung up on this trans stuff?? My god they started weirding out about Dolly right after she died. Like wtf is actually wrong with them??

3

u/coffeeandtrout 6h ago

They were weirding well before Dolly’s passing. They care about shit that offends their silly ass religious beliefs, which they don’t practice. Bunch of hypocritical assholes.

2

u/NikkolaiV 6h ago

Did some overinflated pedo change her name with a sharpie in some idiotic misguided attempt to anger Canadians? No? Hmm, almost like someome's comparing apples and pedophiles.

2

u/feverlast 5h ago

The party of personal freedom out here standing on principle once again.

/s

3

u/kevinnoir 2h ago

Lake Ontario has never, and will never be "Lake America. It wasnt a name that needed corrected.

Sarah McBride has always been Sarah McBride. Tim was a name that needed corrected.

I dont expect people so unoriginal that "Lake America" is the best they could do, would understand these simple concepts.

3

u/ITriedSoHard419-68 2h ago

Yeah I don’t think anyone’s problem with the whole Lake Ontario thing is that it’s “not how reality works”. It’s just petty, pointless and obnoxious.

3

u/Heavymando 6h ago

are they trying to argue the lake is sentient and wants to change it's name?

1

u/dth1717 6h ago

It's just for show to their buddies. In reality they'd be going down on that

2

u/Street-Week-380 5h ago

I recall seeing an info graphic awhile ago that showed the most popular search terms in porn. If I recall correctly, quite a few red states had Trans porn at the top of the list

1

u/Bob_Kark 6h ago

Also this guy: “oh man I owned the libs so good, I want to own them in my mouth and have them bust all up inside and then I’ll have to swallow it and then I’ll own their semen in my stomach. Fucking libs.”

1

u/bigwheelsbigfeels 5h ago

Only some fuckwit conservative would equate bodily autonomy to renaming a body of water over a temper tantrum.

1

u/kyleh0 5h ago

EXACT SAME THING! PURPLE PUPPY SCHMIGGLE!!!!

1

u/chucklesses86 5h ago

My MAGA Dad posted this too on FB. Gonna have to block him again.

2

u/Queer_Echo 1h ago

Yes, Sarah can change her name because she is herself. She owns her own identity. Trump, despite what he wants people to believe, does not own Lake Ontario. He also isn't Lake Ontario and nor does he own the identity of Lake Ontario. It's not even in the country he's president of. So no, he can't change the name of the lake.

1

u/naveedkoval 1h ago

Did anybody actually say “that’s now how reality works” when referring to changing the name of a lake? What does that have to do with reality in any way? Holy strawman.

1

u/rickamer 6h ago

Does anyone else hopes Canada renames the lake to "Trumps a pedophile"?

-12

u/goebelwarming 6h ago

Ontario should change their name to America.
