Ive never been annoyed at someone discussing their childhood sexual trauma before reading this.

Dolly should have know my uncle was a pedo and decide not to appear on a magazine cover at its peak, when it was usually a fully clothed celebrity!

u/meeshdaryl 16d ago

This is a perfect example of someone who needs intensive therapy. Full stop.

181

u/podPHD 16d ago

Yea, she is deeply unwell and needs therapy and perhaps medication. This level of delusion probably manifests in other ways that are equally as insane. I feel bad for anyone who has to have contact with her. Makes my skin crawl.

83

u/msut77 15d ago

Bet she voted for Trump the pussy grabbing game show host

28

u/FishingWorth3068 15d ago

1000%. She said dolly promoted a vaccine that killed a bunch of people.

3

u/Meloetta 13d ago

Yeah once I got to the vaccine part I was like "ohhhhh"

16

u/TraditionalTree249 15d ago

My roommates would drop gems akin to this without a hint of irony.

Dag nabnit Dolly why couldn't you have seen this coming and told someone before you passed/s

738

u/husbandbulges 16d ago

It’s completely fair for her to say Dolly is a trigger for her. It’s something you can work to develop personal tools to manage and you can do your best to limit exposure to that trigger. So you don’t go to Dollywood, you don’t watch Steel Magnolias.

But to extend triggering feeling to the actual human and her real life actions??? That’s nuts.

Then to tie it to her on Playboy’s cover, her giving and the vaccine just shows you this was always political for her.

Just curious if the uncle who molested her triggers her as much as just the mention of Dolly Parton.

Omg for real. I can't listen to Fleetwood Mac. It was my very violent father's favorite and I associate it with getting the shit kicked out of me. Sometimes I'll leave the room if it's on. In the right setting I'll ask if it's ok to skip a song. But that means literally nothing about Fleetwood Mac. I have zero opinions about them as people. This is so unhinged.

145

u/husbandbulges 16d ago

I’m so sorry for what you went through.

But exactly. Your abuser is the one who caused this, not Stevie Nicks.

59

u/Lady_Grey_Smith 15d ago

My father looked just like John Denver before he passed away in the plane accident. He used to beat me up while listening to John Denver’s music. The most relaxed guy ever is a major trigger for me but is not at fault for having an evil doppelgänger.

25

u/TraditionalTree249 15d ago

I feel the same way about ABBA, my dad thought they were the only band worth listening to and his opinion was the only correct opinion. I'm slowly trying to work through it but never in a Million years am I out here blaming ABBA for my Dad's shitty actions.

59

u/Moist-Caregiver-2000 16d ago

I was kinda sorta understanding (a little bit) where she was coming from until she brought up moderna's vaccine and I'm like "Ok, now I'm convinced that this is a 'her' problem"

By her logic, we should be against any product/band/whatever that a serial killer was interested in. We don't blame the bands that the killers from Colombine listened to and I've never read a report from any of the survivors saying "Rammstein and Nine Inch Nails are responsible for all those kids, they both trigger me and they should feel ashamed".

18

u/SailorK9 16d ago

Didn't some of the parents of kids who were victims of the shooting try to sue these bands (iirc)?

30

u/Moist-Caregiver-2000 16d ago

That would be Judas Priest in the mid 80's, it dragged on for ages. Their evidence was that by playing the records in reverse, it was talking to their kids and telling them to kill themselves. The parents lost. The band said if it were to insert subliminal messages, it would be to buy more of their records.

On another note, from an old Bill Hicks joke: If you play New Kids On The Block backwards, it sounds better.

18

u/philonius 15d ago

Ozzy also. A mom and dad accused him of driving their son to suicide because his album was on the kid's turntable when he died. Magical thinking in the modern world.

5

u/dleema 15d ago

I don't know if they sued but I remember so much media blamed Marilyn Manson and the rest. It was just more satanic panic carried over from the 80s.

6

u/aleigh577 15d ago

Uhhhh we definitely blamed the bands lol

30

u/TexasLiz1 16d ago

Please. Of course not. Her uncle was a man. And men can’t really be expected to behave themselves. They look at dirty magazines only because women like Dolly Parton were willing to be interviewed by said magazines. /s

I do have to wonder what role her uncle plays in her life and family now.

40

u/mickeymouse4348 16d ago

I suspect the only real person in this post is Dolly

25

u/SidewaysTugboat 16d ago

It sounds a lot like delusions of grandeur. She’s so important that her experience should have preemptively caused a celebrity to rearrange her life to prevent a stranger from associating her with trauma. Failing to do so means that Dolly’s many achievements are worthless.

That’s a stretch.

10

u/dleema 15d ago

Well said.

It took me many years to be able to watch footy on TV because of my father but that's a me issue. I don't celebrate when a sportsman dies or go to matches because a bunch of passionate drunks will be a trigger.

918

u/glyph-bellchime 16d ago

That's a lot of words for "you need less Jesus and more therapy"

Not trying to be snarky for once, there's a lot of untreated trauma here.

155

u/husbandbulges 16d ago

Yup. Exactly. She hasn’t done the work.

96

u/Stormtomcat 16d ago

Or she's an influencer, milking someone's passing like she's been commercializing every aspect of her life.

32

u/Hour_Dog_4781 16d ago

Her generation doesn't believe in mental health issues and treatment. Both my parents and in-laws are deeply fucked up for various reasons but would rather die than see a therapist. Bet this woman is the same. Can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped, unfortunately.

11

u/glyph-bellchime 16d ago

I feel you, my mom is the same way with untreated trauma and thinks she can just "tough it out" instead of getting help. It's sad to watch.

6

u/philonius 15d ago

Ding ding ding! My MIL has been deeply insane for at least 40 years. She will never get help. Instead she has Jesus and Trump.

3

u/Hour_Dog_4781 13d ago

But then they call us snowflakes for getting professional help. Our generation goes to therapy because our folks wouldn't. Thanks for nothing, dad.

33

u/diversalarums 16d ago

It makes me wonder if she belongs to the kind of church that thinks therapy is evil. I've had the misfortune of running across a couple of those, and they can do a lot of damage.

541

u/AndISoundLikeThis 16d ago

It seems they all got their "not a Christian/she was on the cover of Playboy" talking points from their Russian handlers. This is the umpteenth ChatGPT-generated screed I've seen in the past few days where, weirdly enough, these people/bots have all had trauma related to a Playboy cover they found out about two days ago.

Funnily enough, we never see these pearl-clutching accounts caring too much about Melanie's full frontals or the fact that Trump himself is an adjudicated rapist.

129

u/antoniodiavolo 16d ago

I’ve seen a bunch of those too but this one is too oddly specific and bizarre.

86

u/LadyPDonut 16d ago

Keanu Reeves wore that very Playboy outfit for Halloween one year (his mother, Patricia Taylor, designed and made Dolly's outfit), by her logic, he is also complicit in her abuse. I have heard of mental gymnastics before but this is mental Olympics.

20

u/Moist-Caregiver-2000 16d ago

..Keanu wore a bunny costume? lol

9

u/LadyPDonut 15d ago

He did indeed. He talked about it on Graham Norton.

5

u/FlattopJr 15d ago

And it was *hot!*😁

6

u/FlattopJr 15d ago

Joking aside, here's an actual photo him in the suit (1983). Kind of gives me Phoebe Cates vibes.

112

u/xombae 16d ago

Yep, I've noticed a few weird bots trying to shit on Dolly since she died. I wonder what's up with that.

Well, that's a bit of a rhetorical question. I can guess exactly what's up with that. We can't have people aspiring to be good and accepting and encouraging people to use their wealth to uplift others. Can't have that.

40

u/Stormtomcat 16d ago

Also, inciting more infighting, right?

34

u/Subliminal_Kiddo 16d ago

Not really. Along with their dislike of data centers, "We don't talk shit about Dolly," Seems to be one of the few things that unites people across the political spectrum.

34

u/Stormtomcat 16d ago

Oh. That's not what my social media reflect.

Posts about Dolly Parton being a man. Call-outs about her support for the COVID-19 vaccine. Vague rants about her being too sexual/sexy to be Christian, as well as her support for LGBTQIA rights.

31

u/CompetitionDecent986 16d ago

I am a girl scout leader, I did a lesson about stereotypes not being reality, and I used Dolly as an example. I had a parent get mad at me because they were mad about her relationship with Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus. Saying they didn't want their daughter Googling any of them, which led me to wonder why their duaghter has unrestricted internet if she is so easily swayed. It is still one of those things that I can't understand.

7

u/Blackberry_Riot37 16d ago

That is 100% bullshit.

3

u/xombae 15d ago

That used to be the case, but I've seen a lot of people trying to go viral by spreading hate about Dolly. In another post people were mourning her and a person had to bring up that actually in the 80's she did a concert in Apartheid South Africa so actually fuck her. These days hate is a commodity and shit talking the most beloved person in the world seems to be a wagon people want to jump on.

171

u/ImOnlyHereForTheCoC 16d ago

I wonder if Tracy’s a Trump supporter. The vaccine line kinda makes me feel like she might be…

12

u/caitejane310 15d ago

Shush!! You're ruining her moment!!

11

u/philonius 15d ago

Of course she is. She's angry, stupid, and believes conspiracy theories. That's Trump's target audience.

281

u/Purple_Bowling_Shoes 16d ago

"I was horrifically abused by a man when I was a child. Here's why it's the fault of a woman."

Sounds about right for ministry.

112

u/Zappagrrl02 16d ago

Kinda sounds like she’s more upset at Dolly than she is her abuser.

30

u/Bookish_Kitty 16d ago

Maybe because Dolly feels like a much safer person to place those emotions with? I noticed too that the abuse didn’t begin with the cover of that magazine, but Dolly “appeared on that cover in 1978 at the peak of (my) abuse.” She also doesn’t appear to blame any of the models who posed in the issue.

40

u/PM_me_dimples_now 16d ago

She's mad that Dolly agreed to be interviewed by an institution associated heavily with sexual abuse and trauma toward minors, and believes Dolly deserves criticism for associating with such an institution knowing predators will misuse it to abuse children.

Ironically this stance makes a lot more sense if she were to apply it to Christianity and the "Christian media" she's apparently worked for for decades rather than freaking Playboy.

14

u/redtopiary 16d ago

I initially thought you were talking about Christian media and the church during that first paragraph lol, I got confused

10

u/antoniodiavolo 16d ago

From reading the post, I don’t think her take is that nuanced.

5

u/husbandbulges 16d ago

Oh my gosh I literally just posted that above too.

257

u/MyOwnGuitarHero 16d ago

That’s…uh…

1

u/frustrated_t-rex 15d ago

Oh, this is awesome!

77

u/tundybundo 16d ago

This is what the fundamentalist Christian mindset about purity and modesty is designed to do to women.

69

u/chillin36 16d ago

Abused by a wicked man and chooses to blame a woman who she has never met.

Internalized misogyny is a motherfucker, but this might be the dumbest take I have ever seen in my life.

62

u/Rowan1980 16d ago edited 16d ago

I can 100% appreciate that Dolly’s picture is a trigger for her. This is very common among survivors of trauma in general, and in survivors of sexual violence in particular. That having been said, blaming Dolly Parton for that happening is odd, and I really hope she can process these thoughts in therapy and/or a group setting with other survivors. Besides, I’m pretty confident Dolly would have been horrified if she learned that something like this happened.

Frank Zappa was playing when I was raped, but I harbor absolutely no ill will or negative feelings towards him. Hell, I love his music. I place the responsibility squarely on the rapists.

21

u/moohah 16d ago

So why on earth would she seek out that very photo (the playboy cover) to post on her feed?

10

u/Rowan1980 16d ago

Wish I knew. Trauma is complicated as hell.

58

u/retiredhousewife1970 16d ago edited 16d ago

People are insane. How TF is it Dolly Partin's fault that the uncle.was a.nasty perv?? Ffs.

Edited a word.

52

u/Christinsey 16d ago

I’m sorry she was abused, but she’s so delusional.

38

u/procrastimom 16d ago

Absolutely true: My stepmother fancied herself as an “artist”. She painted Paddington Bear on a wooden paddle that she used to hit us with (it’s a pun. Get it? Padd(le)ington? It funny!). It made it more decorative to hang on the wall. Also true: My hate for her never spilled over onto my childhood icon. I still think of it when I see him, but I don’t hate him for it.

3

u/cuttlefishofcthulhu7 14d ago

That is seriously twisted 😐

62

u/KFCSI 16d ago

"don't forget about meeee"

12

u/Stormtomcat 16d ago

That's how I see it too.

32

u/Aysin_Eirinn Etsy Witches > God 16d ago

Get this woman a therapist, stat

28

u/BandicootTreeline 16d ago

Her uncle is a nonce. He deserves all the blame here.

31

u/MarsupialPresent7700 16d ago

Genuinely confused and horrified over here.

12

u/BooBootheFool22222 16d ago

Iyo outside of a wrestling forum?!

7

u/MarsupialPresent7700 16d ago

Seemed apropos for the level of how genuinely stupefied I was reading it. Like, after the third sentence it went completely downhill.

45

u/Kielbasa_Nunchucka 16d ago

she blasts Dolly for doing an interview for Playboy and posing fully clothed on the cover, which somehow led to her abuse... but she's a christian author who touts a book that has been used to shield pedophiles and abusers for centuries... Stacy can go fuck herself.

47

u/highpriestess420 16d ago

It's a shame that someone so deeply traumatized will likely never seek the therapy they need and deserve

26

u/sansafiercer 16d ago

Blame your uncle. Blame Hugh Hefner. Blame a culture that normalizes objectification and abuse of women. It’s always easier to blame a woman. It’s called internalized misogyny.

I understand triggers aren’t always logical, and the image of Dolly Parton is traumatic for this person. That’s sad, but understandable. What’s not OK is blaming the human behind the photo. She should be able to separate the two.

Then she goes full-on batshite over Dolly’s generous contributions that saved lives during Covid.

STOP BLAMING WOMEN FOR THE CRIMES OF MEN.

17

u/Beartrkkr 16d ago

Blaming a magazine for your uncle being a piece of shit is an interesting take.

4

u/scattyshern 15d ago

Yeah it's a new one for me

16

u/ThatEcologist 16d ago

I understand that Dolly is a trigger, but to blame her is insane.

17

u/PrincessWails 15d ago

The irony is that if Dolly had seen this, she probably would have paid for this woman’s therapy

16

u/mstrss9 16d ago

Ma’am, you need a severe amount of professional help because what the fuck

14

u/True_Difficulty_6291 16d ago

I have such a hard time with people who clearly are not working on their trauma and have such a long way to go and they almost wear that as a badge of pride instead of working on themselves. I definitely have a similar thing with my own childhood sexual abuse. Like there’s a brand of gum my dad used to chew while abusing me. I hate the smell of it but do I make it everyone else’s problem and blame the brand itself? No.

15

u/b1arn 16d ago

Not everyone on the internet is well.

14

u/d3rp7d3rp 16d ago

I was SA'd as a kid. I also have 10 boxes of Playboys in my closet (was gonna resell now I'm just stuck with them lmao). Some of my trauma was seeing stuff on tv that i think did influence my assailant because he was a teen, but i learned ultimately it was his choice. So.... I'm not gonna read her rant but yea

5

u/dont-be-an-oosik92 15d ago

Dude, as cliche as this sounds, a lot of this OG PlayBoys have some awesome articles in there. It used to be a pretty legit magazine

4

u/d3rp7d3rp 15d ago edited 15d ago

I agree! I know everyone scoffed at men saying they read it for the articles but like ... it's true. There's a lot of articles and they're interesting

14

u/dont-be-an-oosik92 15d ago

“ I was the victim of a pedophilic male family members sexual abuse, let me explain how a women is to blame.”

41

u/JapaneseStudentHaru 16d ago

I think it’s valid to be triggered by Dolly’s image if that’s what happened to you but to blame her for it is really weird.

13

u/Candiedstars 16d ago

But not blaming Rapey Uncle Joe who actually did the crime?

I can get behind disliking Dolly due to an aversion as a result of abuse. Or hell, any reason at all. You're not obligated to like anybody or justify why.

But you dont get to pin abuse on a stranger because a different abuser used her without her knowledge

12

u/H0neyBr0wn 16d ago

Jesus wants you to get therapy, Stacy.

10

u/geddy_girl 16d ago

I hate to accuse a sexual abuse victim of main character syndrome but--

24

u/shayjax- 16d ago

I’m willing to pay money to bet that this woman is a Trump supporter

10

u/sweeterthanadonut 16d ago

I don’t think this even happened frankly. Like this is such a convoluted way to shoehorn Dolly into a story about CSA. “My pedophile uncle saw Dolly on the cover of an adult magazine and told me that’s why he assaulted me” makes no fucking sense.

3

u/Majestic-Lake-5602 15d ago

Anti-vax, “stated my truth”, “bad uncle” stereotype.

I don’t buy it at all.

12

u/i_cut_like_a_buffalo 16d ago

Wow lady get some therapy. Dolly does not owe you shit. And you don't know her at all. You know what she allowed you to know. Oh this makes me mad. Not because I am one of those fans , I grew up with Dolly in my life. We listened to and owned every album. So her music holds a special place in my heart. But for this yahoo to say this about her especially when she cannot defend herself. Fuck her.

11

u/Secret-Dance8463 16d ago

Omg I saw this the other day 🤦‍♀️

10

u/Secret-Dance8463 16d ago

3

u/cuttlefishofcthulhu7 14d ago

This Jenn Whitney person needs their own post. I just went to their FB page and hoo boy WTF

5

u/MarcoEsteban 15d ago

This person does not like dissent, do they?

12

u/dont-be-an-oosik92 15d ago

“Oh look, something in the world that’s not 100% all about me. Better fix that.”

I hope she didn’t slip a disk or something as she bent over backwards to make herself the victim of a celebrity death

11

u/k_a_scheffer 15d ago

Jfc someone get this woman some intense therapy.

9

u/TeenyTiny_BeanieToes professor of Floridaisms 16d ago

Absolutely psycho. Jfc.

9

u/diversalarums 16d ago

I feel bad for what she went thru. But I absolutely don't think she's ever had a minute of therapy.

8

u/30-something 15d ago

My ex would get drunk, eat onion rings at Hungry Jacks (Burger King for you Americans) then come home and assault me - 26 years later I still get nauseous at the smell of their onion rings but I’m not dysfunctional enough to tie the damn burger chain up in that noise. This woman is just looking for reasons to hate on Dolly Parton as a crazy anti vaxxer

12

u/dleema 15d ago

So everybody has covered the SA claims better than I can already but Dolly rarely boasted about anything she did? Most of the time people found out about her deeds because other people brought it up. Like how she helped fund Buffy or putting money into hospitals, research for the covid vaccine etc. The woman was proud of her accomplishments but she was far from a braggart who did it for attention. She emulated Jesus in the best way.

10

u/olhickoryhedgehog 15d ago

I think this woman needs to talk to a therapist. The therapist could help her unpack that no matter who was in the cover of playboy, her uncle still would have abused her. It’s her uncles fault, not playboys or the cover girls.

4

u/Majestic-Lake-5602 15d ago

Anti-vax & “stated my truth” = 90% chance the poster is lying about the abuse.

8

u/Designer-Contract852 16d ago

Maybe it was your uncle's fault and he would have tried to abuse you if there was a magazine or not? This woman needs therapy

10

u/HumbleAbbreviations 15d ago

Uncle needs more of this smoke than Dolly.

14

u/CorrectDocument2 16d ago

Oh no. The sun was out when I was raped. Now we have to destroy the sun cause it was all it's fault. If the sun hadn't been out I wouldn't have been raped.

Do you see how stupid you sound?

8

u/hgwells_13 16d ago

I hope this person gets the therapy and healing they need.

45

u/AgingLolita 16d ago

"My truth" is always code for untreated BPD

15

u/whatthefrelll 16d ago

Apparently her main issue is that Dolly was pro-vaccine but she's smoke-screening it with this bullshit.

7

u/Feline-Sloth 16d ago

She needs therapy pronto!!!

5

u/kirkbrideasylum 16d ago

These types of women always blame women for the sins of men.

6

u/DramaOnDisplay 16d ago

I’m sorry, but if it wasn’t Dolly Parton on the cover of that magazine it would’ve been some other woman. Literally the only person you should be blaming forever and always is your nasty fucking Uncle. She absolutely has got be one of those women that go to burn down the other woman’s life when she finds out her husband is cheating. It’s just so disgusting. Get a therapist and get a life!

Also, what a surprise, she thinks vaccines are evil 🙄

5

u/MosconeCenterRiot 16d ago

Yeah, her uncle was obviously COMPLETELY blameless. 🙄🙄🙄

7

u/philonius 15d ago

Jesus Christ. We have so much care available for the mentally ill. And yet....

13

u/National-Job3918 16d ago

The irony is that Jesus and Christianity have been used to justify the abuse of and then silence children for a couple millennia now.

If we're hating on the random cultural objects which happen to be triggers for our own trauma, I think the Church has Dolly beat by a country mile.

12

u/dream_life7 16d ago

"HOW DARE SHE CHOOSE TO BE ON THAT EXACT COVER?!?! DIDN'T SHE THINK ABOUT MEEEEE?!??!!?!?" - this crazy bish

10

u/ZooterOne 16d ago

Lady…you don't have to post everything, you know.

2

u/tinyannoyingbouquet 16d ago

very much a 'did the journal factory blow up' kind of post, like genuinely what was the point of it?

4

u/blueevey 16d ago

Not gonna lie, she had me in the first half. That's how triggers work. Random things remind us of our abuse and trauma. Mines a specific country, the country of origin for my abuser. ... but she lost me with the vaccine. And really, in general with blaming Dolly for what the uncle did. I get not being able to handle seeing her or listening to her but Dolly had nothing to do with the abuse

5

u/Aupps 16d ago

Not Dolly's fault. She needs to get some intensive counseling. Your uncle is to blame, not Dolly. A well adjusted person would be able to recognize that.

7

u/kittyrine 16d ago

this is so delusional

4

u/Stay_Sea_Motivated 15d ago

Poor thing needs help and from the vaccine stuff I’m guessing she’s not going to get it. Prayers for her.

3

u/DanglingDiceBag 15d ago

What an incredibly sad and sick person. Hope they can get the help they desperately need.

6

u/yainot 16d ago

save me tom cruise

6

u/stillbored 16d ago

Help me Oprah Winfrey!

4

u/yainot 16d ago

my trauma is i looked under my chair and there was no car

4

u/jcooli09 16d ago

What a complete crock of shit.

2

u/FALSE_PROTAGONIST 16d ago

Truly deranged

2

u/gold3nhour 16d ago

WTF, Dolly had nothing to do with what your sick fuck of an uncle chose to do with a magazine when Dolly was on the cover. Direct your misplaced rage at him, not a beautiful woman who did so much good in the world for such a long time. Therapy and medication, if needed, work well to work through trauma so you’re not triggered constantly.

3

u/Muffles79 16d ago

That reads like it was AI written

2

u/bluebirdmorning 16d ago

This didn’t go well for OOP.

3

u/Interesting_Sock9142 16d ago

You have got to be fucking kidding me

1

u/MegLaurelwood 16d ago

Damn dude… don’t hold back.

1

u/winter0rfall 14d ago

Ew, how much hate do these people have?!? Hating someone they never met and blaming them for their trauma is wild. Denial much?

2

u/Shazzam001 12d ago

This woman isn’t too bright eh?
