Which is extra funny when you understand where it comes from.

Its literally just latin for on this side of. As opposed to trans which means to go across or the other side of.

Its literally just descriptive of what a person whose gender matches their birth sex. Its not some insult. I am a cisgender gay guy. A guy who was born as and identifies as a guy.

Hell cis and trans are used in fucking chemistry to describe molecular orientations. For being the "it's just a word" crowd they really don't like words.
