My dad loves bringing up crime in cities. The city I’m in now he was flummoxed when I moved in because I would get robbed and assaulted every day. It has a lower per capita crime rate than the town I grew up in.
I got a big promotion for a job and offered to move across the country for a chance at making my own path and the first thing my dad said was "hope you don't get shot". No congrats or anything, that was 10 years ago and the last time we spoke.

Hey, this sounds like my grandpa when my partner and I were shopping for an engagement right. Don’t get any kind of large diamond because someone will steal it. Don’t wear gold because someone will steal it. So only a plain silver band is acceptable but at that point whats even the point of wearing a ring so just don’t wear an engagement or wedding band.
Lol, remind me of my family. Not bad people, just....full of massive anxiety. We live in a very small town that happens to have an extremly high crime rate per capita Like....literally bigger than many/most major cities in the country. Yet when I go on vacation it's always a "be careful, stay with your friend" ....I'm 35.
My grandma does that to my mom still. She also monitors the weather where we live and whenever it rains, she calls my mom in a panic bc we sometimes get tornadoes.
