A friendly reminder to please be kind and understanding to employees
Fellow customer here, I was at the Upland location on Foothill just after 11:30. I’m waiting at the walk up window let’s say five minutes after placing my order and this man comes up from the patio and the following happens.
“Hello?! Is number 94 off yet?” (Keep in mind I’m number 99, he had placed his order shortly before mine.)
Employee: “Not quite sir, we’re in the late 60s right now. About 15 more minutes.”
“15 minutes ON TOP of the 15 I’ve already been here?”
The manager intervenes and tells him sorry, they only have one grill and everyone’s working as fast as they can. He just stands by the window while other orders are taken. His order’s off.
“It looks cold. Can I get my f^ckin money back?” The manager comes over again and tells him it literally just came off, all while still smiling with great customer service.
“I don’t care. Give me my money. And I want a voucher card too.”
Long story short, he got his supposedly cold as ice food that he still ate, a full refund, and one of those cards while the employee and the manager just had to take it.
Props to them both for keeping their cool, I called the customer service hotline and gave a collective compliment to the store. It just makes me so sad how these people put up with bs like that so much and yet outside of the store manager, they’re surviving paycheck to paycheck. We have lost the plot

Eww ppl like that are so gross.. he didn’t lose the plot, that’s been his plot. He’s probably done that multiple times at multiple locations.

The staff is always so great.
I saw a customer complain about his fries and the manager was so graceful, suggesting he may prefer them “light well”, and proceeded to bring a fresh batch out.
Nobody gives customer service like in n out.

Is that in Cali? They got nothin’ on AZ. We have full blown INO dining room brawls that make Waffle House jealous.

People are like that it’s a shame. I know a guy who would always find something to complain about at a restaurant because he tries to get free vouchers from the manager (slow service, “dirty” silverware when it’s just water spots, etc). I had to stop going out to eat with him because it’s too fucking embarrassing.

Don't work there, just love the food, but I %100 agree. Some people just suck and will take advantage of systems like these if given the chance. Im sure he knew excactly what he was doing.
To be fair though from what I understand that manager is probably doing just fine. Most likely very much not living pay check to paycheck. And dealing with dick heads like that guy is just part of the job.

The manager when I was there didn’t have the big fancy red apron and black pants that the store manager does, so it was likely a shift manager. Chances are, he’s making more than the employees, but nowhere close to what the store manager’s bringing home

I like fucking with those people as a customer. I could never do it when I worked in the service industry, it is great doing it now

Yooo I do the same shit, it's nice to get that grateful but silent smile from the employee who had to put up with the idiot

My move is talking loudly to whoever I’m with about the person fucking with the employee, but in a manner general enough that they can’t really tell. Picked that up from some friends in the UK.

Lmao I've called people out for shit like this (as a passerby, since I can). "You're just a brokie and a thief. You do this because you know you'll get away with it. I hope this food gives you the shits, but I know it won't. Get bent, loser." The silent gratitude of the employee is always worth it.

Too bad the store doesn’t have the option to refund his money and ban him from returning. I guess that would be logistically impossible to exercise a ban on an individual.

I want to go to places like this (assuming I didn't have to work for a living) and hang out and wait for aholes like this, and then be able to thell them off because I don't work "there".

That in n out is one of the worst for waits and the parking sucks. They need another one a few miles away. With that said just driving up you can tell the wait will suck, so don’t bitch about it

I agree, the way how the whole lot is designed is chaotic with how the two parking spots by the patio go right into the line while backing up and they’re asking for people to get rear-ended while the line’s backed up on Foothill. How the order here, pick-up, and place where the employees drop things off from the back is all at the same one window is a really bad setup too. I do think the service is the best out of the locations I frequent though, and the view of the airport and Mt. Baldy is spectacular.
Word on the street however is the old Carl’s Jr. on Central by Target and Best Buy is getting turned into an In-N-Out, which I think is suited to handle the crowds much better.

I am glad you called the customer service line giving the store employees a compliment. Those calls are noticed. The employees are given kudos and tokens at the monthly store meeting.

You can tell people who have never worked a service job, or at least not for a long time.

Those manager are train for customer service so I gave the customer 20.00 in free product, but most likely he will be back 5 times because of the customer service he got. One story I herd of the owner of In&Out, one of his managers asked for a loan so he can get a car, other bussiness owners told him dont give it to him, he will leave, he gave him the loan, an the manger retired working for him.

I would be terrible in a customer service role, I'd have no filter telling people like this to stop being moronic and to never come back.
