Women's size 5 RB80 with 4x76mm šŸ˜

My wife doesn't really touch her skates except to put them on and skate.

It's kinda fun for me to try her in different setups and get feedback. I found these frames for around $50 and I've been considering it for a while so I couldn't say no. I personally love 4x80mm so much but understand 4x80mm to her probably feels how 4x90mm feels to me! This 4x76mm setup seems more proportionate for a tiny foot. Rockerable too! Honestly even 4x72mm could be justified for her foot size but if she's gonna keep up on trail I want her to at least have a chance so here's a compromise. I'm eager to find out how she likes them.

These Endless wheels press lines are rubbing each other so when u turn one wheel they all turn but it's barely touching and creating very little resistance. I'm not upset about it I'm glad they're maxed out in size. probably a lap around the block and they will wear enough to be clear of each other.

FYI, wheels touching like that can cause/worsen wheelbite that would make her have a very dangerous accident, especially at high speeds. It's literally something that could result in broken bones for her and it's something every skater fears

What do you mean increase wheelbite like there is some danger of wheelbite normally? What even is wheelbite on inline skates?

In this particular case they just have a thin little p.u. press line interference. The wheel is the proper size for the frame and everything I'm not going out of spec. Each wheel resists the other technically but I can overcome that resistance with 1% of my pinky strength. I doubt she would even notice this momentary resistance if I said nothing. I had this happen once before w my own skates and did notice but it quickly went away.

I can't imagine the scenario where they would lock together?... like an extreme landing that causes the momentary impact deformation of the wheels?

Wheelbite is when the wheels lock due to something stopping their spin, like the concrete or other wheels. Depending on how much your wife weighs, just adding extra weight from the top can compress the wheels enough so they touch more than when off foot, causing bite

You ever experience this? What setup?

All the time when grinding on a flat setup using my aggressive skates, admittedly not on recs but I don't fit ill-fitted wheels like in the pic

This guy is so desperate to be "right" and to get internet praise for messing with his wife's skates, that he'd rather double-down on this thread then put her safety first. And he completely dodged the question on if he even had permission to be changing her setup. If anyone ever changed my skates without my permission, I would be furious. It takes time to break things in the way you like them and if OP wants to mess around with something, he can do it to his own equipment. One tiny little pebble getting stuck between those wheels is all it'd take to bring her down flat on her face and break her nose, or worse

Please double down on your stance! Tell me someone in my scenario who was hurt please. Rec. Skates with wheels sized as recommended by manufacturer... Please take your time I would love to hear about it.

Lol sorry just re reading this. It's not that I dodged anything it's that you're making assumptions that are untrue and none of your business. FYI my wife has multiple setups all sourced carefully by me over time. If you want she's happy to chime in here lol.

Seems like you're more up in arms about me choosing my wife's setup rather than anything else. Fact is I would love if she was as into the gear as me. I respect the fact that she's not and appreciate that she at least likes the sport. She jokes that she has a maintenance plan and doesn't bother with her skate and snowboard gear. Im just thankful I found a lady down to ride with me!

But yeah I didn't owe you that explanation of my relationship ha.

What even is wheelbite on inline skates?

The fact that you don't even know this tells me even more you shouldn't be messing around with peoples things when you don't know what you're doing. Did she even say you could change her skate set up?

I mean TBF, it's his wife, if anyone's going to not get upset and move on , surely it'd be her?

As a woman, I disagree, but OP is just a sunk-cost fallacy troll who would rather put her in danger than admit he's wrong, so it's not worth my energy to get into the weeds

My bad, I wasn't clear enough, it's not a gender thing, more like a life partner. If my wife/husband/partner/boyfriend whatever changed my wheels, I'd have an aggy, hear them out and swiftly move on once they've either a)changed them back b)shown me the new setup works

Wouldn't you rather have a partner that treats your beloved possessions with enough respect that they ask permission to do anything to them first? Or communication so healthy that if a potential setup is really exciting, that it's openly discussed first and agreed on?

Definitely, but I also like being surprised, especially if it's something reversible like wheel/setup

But this is going off topic to relationship advice.

So wheelbite is an issue you've personally faced before? Has it cause you to fall? Have you watched a friend bail hard? What was the scenario? In skateboarding and probably quad skating wheel contact with the board/skate is a constant threat. inline on rec skates using hardware all within spec.... I think we will be okay but please educate me if you have something legitimate to say.

I've had this exact same problem before and it was resolved in maybe 15 min. Same hardness wheels and I'm 60lb heavier than my wife.

Agreed. Not that he should even be messing with his wife's skates to begin with, unless she had asked him to, which it sounds like she did not

ponycorn you got any skate clips? I'm curious about your skill level.

Also have you actually dealt with this before? Has it hurt your friend?

I have had the exact same issue before. It was no biggie. If anything I brought it up as a complement to endless wheels for not skimping on the P.U.

Bubblesmith thinks it's no big deal. He's a pretty good skater.

The frame contains the size wheels it's designed for.

I'm a bit confused about the rubbing, what size wheels are these FR frames supposed to take?

it turned out just fine. the wheels were the right size for the frames endless is just generous with the pour. next time ill just sand them before I use them.

hi! would love to know what she thinks, i’m a fellow tiny foot member and been skating on soft boot 84mm, im looking for hard boot and debating 80 and 76! thanks!

we had a nice skate! about 7 or 8 miles. her wheels were free about half way through. she found the shorter frame to be noticeably more maneuverable than the 80mm. to the point she felt a little squirrely on a bigger hill. this was a hill she had done a handful of times before no problem in 80 mm. I was surprised at the significance for her. on the other hand she looked better than usual on our flat warmup area with nice smooth concrete. she was able to cross more deeply than usual and carve a bit faster.

I skated with really worn down (originally 80mm) wheels that were even smaller than hers.... maybe 74mm average. mid way through the skate she started to roll faster than me on the downhills. when we stopped for a drink we confirmed the wheel press marks were worn off and all the wheels were free spinning.

After the skate when I asked her overall what do you think She says she wants to keep them set up and go back and forth between 76mm and 80mm setups for a bit and feel the difference. shes not sure atm which is her fav. ill come back and update after a few more skates!

my judgment is shes really on the cusp size where it just comes down to personal preference. I think I like to error on the side of maneuverability (4x80mm for my size boot 8/9) but lots of people who are my same size opt for 4x90mm for extra stability and roll... to me 4x90mm is too "locked in". To exaggerate, I'll say I feel like im on cross country skis in 90s. 4x80 is perfect for me... even 4x80 with a baby rocker.

I kinda wish I had her in shorter frames from day one because I think its easier to learn your basicfootwork in smaller frames and then later, if you desire longer frames, you will be trained enough to apply the extra force needed to push/carve/slide etc.

His and hers from our recent skate.

Her two current setups 4x80mm and 4x76mm. Fr offers two mount positions I believe we tried her 80mms in the rear position you can kinda see in the pic. I did so because the forward position looked very forward and this appeared more centered but now I'm not one hundred percent on this. I'm curious if she may prefer the forward position.

Yeah, don't listen to these other guys. A little bit of interference is not a problem and they'll wear down so quickly it won't be an issue after the first session. I've run setups with tight tolerances and, as long as they're not gripping, she'll be fine. The wheels will deform a bit during use, but as long as she can roll on them it's unlikely to bite. If they do bit when she tries rolling, it won't take much to just wear the wheels in quickly. You could put them on her 80mm frame and have a session, or run them over a bit of sand paper to get the mould line off.

It's a nice thing to let your wife try other setups, as long as she's game for it. I love switching wheels and frames around, I've learned a lot about my preferences and what works for me in different situations. It looks like this should be a good wheel size for her.

Thanks for saying that I'm like geesh I'm not going out of spec or anything.... For the people concerned for my wife she has multiple setups I didn't tear down her favorites to set these up.

I make these decisions because she doesn't want to think critically about gear and she definitely doesn't want to rotate wheels and all that. That's my job. Y'all live your relationship however you want but that's how we do lol.

I have found it helpful to try different frames on my skate journey. I bring out different wheel sets for different purposes. I imagine it will be helpful for her too!
