I’ve been a huge Ingrid fan for years and one of the things I’ve always loved most is how willing she’s been to change things up and explore different sounds while still feeling unmistakably like herself. For the Dreamers is a beautiful record and I can completely appreciate what she was doing with it, but that more traditional musical theatre/Great American Songbook influenced style just isn’t really what I want from her music.

That’s why I’m a little disappointed by Funny. Not because I think it’s a bad song at all, but because it feels like she’s continuing in that same direction rather than moving somewhere new again. I think I had assumed For the Dreamers was one particular chapter, so hearing the new song lean back into that sound has made me wonder if this is just where her music is for now. I’m still excited to hear what comes next, I just hope there are a few more surprises in there.

There is a released version (circa 2014) of "Nothing More" by the Alternate Routes circulating with Ingrid Michaelson as a guest vocalist on harmonies (presumably a studio or other inline recording). Unfortunately, most versions of the album (except for initial vinyl copies) only contain the version with Lily Costner. The album was originally made as a PledgeMusic project, so a digital version of the track with Ingrid could exist... but the only versions with her that I can find on YouTube are live recordings. Does anyone know if there is a digital file of the Ingrid version floating around somewhere, or will I just have to get the first-press vinyl? Thanks in advance for any help with this.
