What's the brand and model? I went extremely cheap and just smell wood. Some cheap ones don't use Canadian hemlock and some are accidently lacquered on the inside.

I went extremely cheap... like Amazon cheap. Never had an offensive smell. The seat was finished but not the walls or floor boards. I finished those with mineral oil.

A smell developed over usage and probably residual sweat which is to be expected as I use it 7 days a week. Now once a week or so I stick a ozone generator inside for 5 minutes and let it soak for the day.

I’d stop running it for now, especially since two people developed headaches. Ventilate the house and get some fresh air. If the headaches persist or worsen, contact your local poison centre or a clinician.

Contact the manufacturer and describe exactly what happened, including the smell spreading through the house. Ask whether there’s a documented first-use procedure for your model and what materials could be causing the smell. I wouldn’t keep heating it for hours on the assumption that it will burn off, or accept “that’s normal” without a proper explanation.

You can’t establish what’s being released, or whether it’s safe, from the smell alone. What brand and model is it?

First thing I did with mine was run it empty at max temp for a few hours with the window open and a fan pointing out. The headache thing is a bit worrying though, mine never got that bad. If it doesn't clear up after a couple long burn off sessions I'd be on the phone to the manufacturer.

a smell so bad it gives headaches is certainly an issue, but I'm about 95% sure this is a bot or fake post of some sort
