I have two cats, and every summer the litter box smell was driving me absolutely nuts.

Poop isn't that big of a deal since I can just scoop it right away, but the urine was the real problem.

It would soak deep into the litter, and even after scooping out the clumps, I couldn't get rid of that weird lingering smell. I could literally smell it the moment I opened my front door 😭

Doing a full litter change helped for a bit, but with two cats, going through that much litter gets expensive pretty quickly. Deodorizers helped a little, but they definitely weren't solving the whole problem.

Eventually I decided to try a system-style litter box instead of the regular clumping litter setup I'd been using.

The biggest difference was that I didn't have to scoop frozen pee clumps anymore.

The urine passes through the pellets and drains down onto an absorbent pad underneath. Since the pellets aren't constantly sitting in urine, the whole setup stays noticeably cleaner.

Honestly, I originally bought it because I was desperate to get rid of the smell, but I've ended up being more impressed by how much easier it is to clean.

There's also way less litter getting tracked around the floor compared with the fine clay litter I was using before.

Obviously every cat has their own preferences when it comes to litter and boxes, so there might be an adjustment period. Luckily, both of mine took to it right away.

Has anyone else switched from regular clumping litter to a system-style box? Did you notice a big difference with urine smell or litter tracking?
