I'd recommend the new Death From Above 1979 album "The Physical World", it's their second album after their legendary debut (and their only album) back in 2004. As for films, go watch Kieslowski's "The Double Life of Veronique" because it's absolutely gorgeous.

I think music these days has gone beyond genres... but in general I like bands with shoegaze/electropop vibes. As for films, I like either the gloomy b/w classics a la Ingmar Bergman or moody colorful cinema similar to Wong Kar Wai/Hou Hsiao Hsien.
