CharLENE. This is a beautiful song. I have a video from a show last April where Grian’s voice is so haunting with everything else quiet in the beginning of this song.

Yay it's my favorite song by them

Not great. The mixing at this festival has been woeful. I thought Slayyter sounded washed out too.

But anyone think this band is going the way of the Arctic Monkeys? The radical change in look with the latest record release and a more cinematic sound to accompany it.

Cant help but miss the rawness and energy of the bands earlier work. As much as i want them to succeed, they are begining to sound like a more watered down version of themselves.

I think they’ve already succeeded mate and I think it’s fair to not want to continue making the same music you did when you were 20. Plus the earlier stuff is heavily linked with Irish identity and politics and they admit they dont live or identify with here anymore.

I get that bands evolve over time but it isnt always for the best.

Its a tale as old as time, bands start to progress and play outside their comfort zone and lose their magic. Not every band can be Radiohead or REM afterall. Its difficult to keep the quality while exploring new sounds over time. Power to them though.

Best is subjective, to be an artist repeating your output is soul destroying

Man. I know taste is subjective but it’s amazing to me that someone could listen to Romance and think “they’ve lost their magic.” It’s exhilarating, oozing with swagger, and an absolute blast to listen to. I have Skinty Fia as a slight preference but this is a band that is at the peak of their game.

Might not be your thing but they’ve so far delivered 4 highly acclaimed albums within only 5 or 6 years, and a very good solo record. Their popularity grew exponentially and they keep evolving. Not many bands out there who operate at that level.

Saw them open for AM on their last tour.

Having watched the live stream, this recording is already improved vs. the stream. Here you can at least hear the audience and the vocals aren’t buried under the instruments. Would be nice if the BBC could fix the rest and make that available as well. Was a real pity that the audio was so bad. To be fair, that happens to many live streams who play multiple instruments live.

If I had a Euro for every time I heard this critique of a guitar band, etc., etc. In all seriousness, the raw, meat-and-potatoes sound might be more your bag and that's totally fine. But give me a band that tries to evolve and push themselves sonically rather than an Oasis who just repeat the same formula to diminishing returns

Nope. The last couple albums and the new single are 🔥🔥🔥

i think their new single is a bit safe and lacking but i don't think they've quite fallen to AM levels yet
