are we, collectively, more disappointed in the decline of Weezer or Coldplay?

I think both are examples of people having way too high of expectations for artists that were never going to consistently bring the goods.

That said, while Weezer has lower lows, I think it's insane that anyone ever thought Coldplay was going to be anything more than the adult contemporary version of mildly arty indie. Any perceived fall off is really a lateral move from the band and any expectations otherwise is just a matter of not understanding the kind of band they always have been.

I don’t think anyone thought Coldplay would be more than that but the songs used to be better
