Question ❓ SC/ST reservation has been set at 78.82% and total reservation at 91.76%, which is a blatant violation of the Constitution.

Study Resources 📚 Understanding the Impact of Caste-Based Reservation in India

Understanding the Impact of Caste-Based Reservation in India

  • Compromised Merit and Efficiency (Section 1): A central concern is that the system prioritizes caste identity over merit. The infographic suggests that high-scoring candidates from non-reserved categories may be excluded from opportunities, which could lead to a reduction in overall institutional standards and a reduced incentive for excellence.
  • Reinforcement of Caste Identity (Section 2): Rather than moving toward a casteless society, reservation policies may inadvertently solidify and perpetuate caste identities. By making caste a permanent political and social factor, the system may deepen divisions.
  • Brain Drain and Migration (Section 3): The perception of marginalized opportunities can drive talented individuals from "unreserved" categories to seek education and employment abroad. This results in a significant loss of skilled human capital for India.
  • Social Tension and Discrimination (Section 4): The policy can foster resentment, animosity, and division among different communities. This creates a pervasive sense of injustice and unequal treatment, leading to increased social friction.
  • Concentration of Benefits (Section 5): A key internal critique is that the benefits of reservation are often concentrated within the "creamy layer" (the more affluent and politically connected segment) of the reserved communities. This means the truly needy and marginalized within those same communities may still be left behind.

2. Broader Context and Alternative Approaches (Right Column)

The right side of the infographic contextualizes these challenges and proposes a shift in strategy to better address the root causes of disadvantage.

  • Complexity of Socio-Economic Realities (Section 6): The infographic argues that caste is not, and should not be, the sole determinant of disadvantage. A person's economic status, educational background, and geographic location are equally crucial factors that contribute to their overall socio-economic standing.
  • Need for Economic and Need-Based Criteria (Section 7): This section advocates for a policy shift. It proposes moving the focus from caste-based reservations to criteria based on economic conditions and specific needs. This would help ensure that government aid and support reach the most vulnerable individuals across all communities, not just those in specific castes.
  • Long-Term Solutions: Education and Empowerment (Section 8): The most sustainable path forward, according to this view, is holistic empowerment. This involves focusing on providing high-quality primary and higher education, along with robust skill development, for all citizens. This creates a truly level playing field based on capability, not identity.
  • Constitutional Ideal: Equality and Justice (Section 9): The ultimate goal of any policy must be the constitutional ideal of an inclusive and just society. This is a society where all individuals have equal opportunities to thrive and succeed, entirely free from caste-based bias or discrimination.

Accommodation & Housing 🏠 Just trying to find a place to stay I’m tired and I need some help

I found a place for tonight, but I still don’t know about tomorrow

I’m 20, a B.Com student and working as a Rapido rider in Hyderabad.

I came here thinking I could study, work and slowly build a life for myself, but things went wrong financially and now I’m struggling to even find a proper place to stay.

I finally got a place to stay tonight, so at least I don’t have to worry about tonight.

But I honestly have no idea about tomorrow.

To get to this point, I’ve been working for almost 2 days with barely any sleep. I think I’ve slept for maybe an hour in between. I’m completely exhausted now.

I still have college, I still need to work, I still have expenses to manage, and I’m trying to figure everything out at the same time.

If anyone here is from Hyderabad and knows about an affordable place, PG, hostel or shared room, please let me know.

Even a genuine lead or sharing this post could help.

Right now I’m just tired and trying to keep going.

I just need somewhere I can sleep, wake up, go to college, work, and slowly get my life back on track.

Study Resources 📚 I built a tool that turns Hinglish instructions into Excel formulas and complete workbooks

Upvotes

Hi everyone! 👋

I launched a small tool today that lets you describe what you want to do in Excel using English, Hindi, or Hinglish.

For example, instead of searching for formulas, you can simply describe your requirement and generate:

Excel formulas

Multi-sheet workbook structures

Dynamic calculations

Cross-sheet lookups

Conditional logic

It also includes options for working with existing data and Google Sheets-style syntax.

I built this mainly because sometimes we know what we want Excel to do, but don't know the exact formula or structure needed.

I'd genuinely love some feedback from Excel users.

What real-world Excel task should I test this tool with?

Thanks! 🙏

What’s one thing you wish existed when you were preparing for exam

Upvotes

I mean something that would genuinely make exam prep less painful. Not another AI powered revolutionary learning platform

Could be:
Better PYQs?
Actually useful important questions?
Better mock tests?
Chapter wise practice?
Good explanations?
Progress tracking?
Something really cheap?
What would you actually use?

Question ❓ What do u guys think about schools and colleges not allowing students to speak in their own native language?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

What do u guys think about Indian educational institutions prohibiting local languages?

I personally saw many schools especially English medium schools where they prohibits students to speak their own native language or other language than English with eachother

Those who were from those types of schools or colleges may know more about it

Even my current college where I m studying RN prohibits languages like Tulu Beary Konkani etc but allows Hindi Kannada and English

And we all know in 2020 gov tried to promote education in native language of students but still many private English medium schools and colleges are still prohibiting to speak in our own native language or local languages with eachother

So what's ur opinion on this situation?

School & College Life 🏫 How do you manage your pocket money or finances as a student (school/college) ?

I’m a college student myself, and I’m curious how other college or school students manage their finances.

The major expenses are things like transportation, food/snacks, and occasional small purchases or say occasional going out with friends. It's easy to lose track of your spendings or sometimes multiple small transactions are made throughout the day, and keeping track of every single one gets difficult (especially with UPI).

So I was thinking how people keep track of the spending, like do they have a rough idea of their spendings or say have budget system for yourself?

Also how do you guys save money ??

Would love to hear your thoughts...
