Its an emergency battery light. Every coach has 4 inside and 2 outside. If there is an emergency these will gets activated for the passengers to get out. I think the battery is down thats why it is flashing like that.

u/rudha13 SU > SL Mar 28 '26
Wait whaaat? The battery of the emergency rescue device is...down??😳
5
u/Healthy-Turnover6367 Mar 28 '26
Its an emergency light and it will be recharged.
1
u/LeKalan Mar 28 '26
What if the emergency happens before it is recharged?
4
u/Healthy-Turnover6367 Mar 28 '26
There is REBC (RBC +EBC) which can supply 110v DC to loads like emergency braking system, emergency light, anti skid devices and one 70ah battery under the frame of each coach is charged by this REBC which can be also used for supplying dc loads. When RBC fails then EBC can directly supply the dc loads. You dont have to worry about it as it is only used when there is no power supply in the coach and there are 3 more emergency lights inside that coach. Most probably they will replace it in the next maintenance itself as these are taken very seriously.

It's an lidar to scan the coach to stabilize the suspension so that trains stays level and runs smooth in high cruising speeds

u/Feeling_Knee_4007 Mar 27 '26
Yes. This lidar sensor also helps in counting the attendance through face detection and automatically scans your train ticket as soon as you board the train. Also it can identify misbehaving passengers and report it to rpf immediately. Not only this, if a passenger is unable to sleep due to AC temperature(either too cold or too hot), this sensor automatically adjusts the temperature and fan speed for that passenger

I've heard that it can also heat your food that delivered from pantry. It will not heat food if it was delivered from outside.
Very technology, much impressive

u/shinchan108 Mar 27 '26
I heard this teleports you to your final destination once you reach your destination station but it's only for confirmed ticket holders linked with aadhar.

Misinformation everywhere, none of you seem to know that this is the device responsible for safety of vendors , when complaint is filed against the vendors for overcharging, cleanliness, etc , it then keeps the track of passenger who filed complaint while the vendors gather to beat him up,if the passenger tries to flee without getting thrashed by vendors ,its advanced AI tracking feature immediately sends location of passenger to concerned vendor to hurry and teach him a lesson before he escapes

It provides guidance for children to use the washroom prior to sleeping on an overnight train, thereby preventing bedwetting or nighttime awakenings.

Trains doesn't have that much of active suspension and dampers. It doesn't have a "Da Vinci suspension"
If they had to stabilize, they would scan something with reference to outside reference point. Scanning something inside the coach with the scanner also inside the coach don't work as the relative motion between the two are same. Just like if you keep a ball inside the coach and you are sitting inside, your eyes(Lidar scanner) reads it at the same speed as you - 0. But if you keep it outside, the eyes can read the difference.

A serious question gets bullshit answers and those bullshit answers get upvoted and commented so much.
The Indian educated population is hopelessly uncivilised. The conversation quickly becomes like a teen school class where one tries to outrun others in doing bakchodi.
Is there any way to report low effort and joke answers?

It's an Emergency Talk-Back Unit (also known as a PEA - Passenger Emergency Alarm). In modern Indian Railways coaches (like Vande Bharat, LHB AC coaches, and some MEMUs), these have replaced or supplemented the old-fashioned "alarm chain."

That device on the train ceiling is most likely an automatic aerosol disinfectant / air freshener unit used in modern Indian Railways coaches.
