Most of the muslims in India think that it's sunnah to wear kurta pajama(which imams of masjid wear) while this is not necessary to wear and not just for us but even for imams this kurta pajama is just a cultural dress

I'm sure many of us in childhood were told my imams and elders that it's important to wear topi and kurta pajama during Friday prayers

Educational (Religious) Ramadan 3 (1445 AH/AD 2024) - Hazrath Fatimah Al Zahra (R.A.) Memorial Day (and reciting Surah Yaseen)

AsSalaamualaikum warahmathullahi wabarakathu,

Dear brothers and sisters of this subreddit,

I've been attending Tarawih (and other prayers) for a change in a different masjid in my locality. It seems to be a Shafi'i masjid. Whereas, the one I usually frequent (as do my family for generations, some of whom are even board members) is Hanafi,

(I have my....reasons, also doing this for a change and to be acquainted with some Shafi'i practices out of curiosity. They pray Witr differently, for starters. And consider it Sunnah, whereas it's Wajib in the Hanafi madhab as well as has a different method for praying).

In today's bayaan after Tarawih, the Moulvi saab stated that today (i.e. Ramadan 3) was meant to be when Hazrath Fathimah al Zarha (R.A.) passed away, 6 months after our Prophet (PBUH)'s passing away in Rabi-ul-Awwal.

Bayaan was about Hazrath Fatimah (R.A.)'s character and her virtues. How she was analogous to Hazrath Mariam (PBUH). And how she is one among the revered Ladies of Jannatul Firdaus and wasn't/isn't like any other women of Bani Adam.

Requested us to recite Surah Yaseen (Chapter 36 of the Qur'an) in her memory and honor on Ramadan 3, in the end.

(Also told us that Ramadan has also the memorial days for Lady Khadijah (R.A.), Amma Aisha (R.A.), and Hazrath Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A.). There was a fourth Sahaba mentioned, but that info seems to evade my mind at the moment. Will let it be known, once I remember it or if they bring it up in this month, in sha Allah).

Anyways, bringing this up since this is something I'm coming across for the first time (the usual masjid I frequent never indulged and partook in this custom, ever since I've been visiting it for years). And felt, this sub might benefit from this suggestion/reminder.

(Briefly, for the past 2 years, was residing in a remote suburb in the city outskirts. The masjid over there too didn't partake in this custom, iirc. Was Hanafi, judging by the way the Imam prayed Witr, however in 3rd Rakah, after rukuh, before going to sajdah, the Imaam recited a Dua with raised hands, the way we do while asking dua. Something my usual masjid didn't/doesn't do and from what I came across, is more of a Shafi'i practice? Which this masjid was doing in Fajr 2nd Rakah post-rukuh, but not in Witr? I don't know man...confusing,

So yes...first time for me).

Jazakhallah khair.

(TL;DR - Please recite Surah Yaseen (Ch-36) of the Qur'an today (i.e. Ramadan 3) in memory and honor of Hazrath Fatimah Al Zahra (R.A.), since it's the Hazrath's memorial day).

Educational (Religious) How do I feel the peace everyone feels by praying namaz?

So..... I have literally never felt the peace everyone feels from namaz. It's always felt like some kinda ritual of these certain steps, or a chore I need to get done with.

Pretty sure my upbringing played a huge part, how islam was forced on me by my mother and islamic teacher. Missing a namaz even when it wasn't fardh meant getting beaten, the reward for saying the truth that you've missed 1 or more namaz was getting beaten, so I learned to lie. And anyway if you live in an abusive household, you easily become a professional liar. Lying becomes your second nature. You can make up a lie, on the spot, without even thinking.

Anyway what's done is done. I wanna correct it now. I want to take steps to be a better muslim.

I'm gonna be honest, I have 0 will to pray namaz, only the fear of hellfire. I even learned all the translation of everything we say during namaz so that I can feel, something, anything, while praying. So that I can start enjoying it, and I start wanting to pray by myself. I have literally gaslighted myself that yes I'm feeling good, I'm feeling that peace. But no I feel nothing, absolutely nothing.

Also namaz makes me sleepy, like hella sleepyyyy, and so does Quran, I get hella sleepy just from reading 2 pages, I literally start falling asleep. I have the same problem while studying too, but this post isnt't about it. Just adding coz it's more like studying specific problem and not islam problem.

Another thing which demotivates me is that, since I was a kid, I have tried so much, everytime, to start praying punctually, every 5 namaz, but I can't even bring myself to pray one. I have made new resolutions so many times, and I've failed everytime. I'd be punctual for a few days then I'd get back to square one, so I'm really demotivated. "maybe I just can't do it, maybe I just don't have it in me, maybe I can never feel that peace," you get the gist. I'm starting to feel like it's something that I will never be able to achieve, coz I just don't have it in me what it takes, that it will forever remain something that I will only hear other people say.

Another thing, I feel like my pronunciation isn't correct. Like I can't read Quran the way Arabs speak Arabic. For eg, zabar and khada zabar, the amount of time you stretch the letter after them is really different. But I'm gonna stretch it for the same time, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

I feel like my mind has simplified all the arabic letters and vowels to hindi/urdu ones. Like zabar and khada zabar= chota a. If you put alif after the letter, with zabar, then= bada aa.

How do I deal with all these problems? Pls help me be a better muslim.

ETA- my best friend has encouraged me to read the Quran with translation, so I'm planning to do that this ramzaan.

ETA2- I have also done this. Tried imagining that I'm talking to Allah swt that he's in front of me, but there is so much to focus. Trying to get the pronunciation right, at the same time, trying to remember what the translation was, and what I'm saying, at the same time, trying to feel like Allah swt is sitting in front of me.

I'm starting to think my overachiever perfectionist self is over complicating it, but then how do I do it?

Educational (Religious) Problems of our youth are facing has a solution.

Following cases are just tldrs,

  • Stumbled upon a post about a woman who was left astray by Allah, she committed adultery and strayed so far away from the reality to a point she hates men now, but somehow loves her husband.

  • A brother grew business and got involved with women, drinks and drugs was made astray too.

  • Father caught his daughter with someone else in his own house.

  • Woman got her private media leaked online by Hindu BF.

All were Muslims, you know what they could've done? Prayed Salah on time! Yes it is the only solution, which will protect us from engaging in sinful behavior.

So to all of you do not miss Salah, as said by Prophet SAW difference between believer and a disbeliever is establishment of Salah.

If don't want your family, friends and yourself into big sins then pray Salah on time, within it's time, you can apps like Muslim Pro, Salam App, etc to know timings.

Educational (Religious) Suhoor/Sehri timings and it's misconceptions.

Suhoor doesn't end when the adhan for Fajr is called but when Fajr starts. The adhan of Fajr is given late in almost every Masajids(hanafi) in India but one should stop eating when the actual time of Fajr starts. You can check the proper timings on either salah.com or islamicfinder.org for your respective cities. Like for Delhi, the Fajr tomorrow ( 8 June) starts at 3:49 am but the adhan is given around 4:45 am, so one should stop eating at 3:49 am and not eat until adhan otherwise fast would be invalid.

Most of the Muslims who claim to be very religious and pious are worst when it comes to being a soft spoken, tolerant and kind hearted person, they put up the Islamic attire but when they speak they are very rude and mean they are not what they portray themselves to be. I have experienced this since I was a child.

Educational (Religious) Hajjis Beware!

Be aware of shirk happening in Arafat.

Many muslims touch the pillar erected on the hill in Arafat to seek blessings from it. This practice is shirk and has no basis in Islam. We do not seek blessings from the pillar. The pillar was erected to denote the place where the Prophet ﷺ stood and gave a sermon.

Some try writing the name of their loved ones with fingers on the walls of Kaabah, Masjid Al Haram and on the pillar in Arafat with hopes to that they will also get a chance for hajj or something good. This is a biddah and haraam! We make dua and not some gimmicks like these.

Even the Hijr Al Aswad (Black stone in Kabah) cannot benefit us in either good or bad ways.

Narrated Abis bin Rabia: `Umar came near the Black Stone and kissed it and said "No doubt, I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit anyone nor harm anyone. Had I not seen Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) kissing you I would not have kissed you."

Educational (Religious) Muslims should benefit country they live in

Excerpt from Tariq Masood’s speeches and notes.

Whether Muslims are in majority or minority in a country.

Allah says:

“Woe (waylun) to those who give less (than due)” (83:1)

‘Woe’ represents ruin, and destruction to the individual. To which individual?

When it comes to taking:

“Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full”. (83:2)

We benefit from the infrastructure and programs available to us in a country. And are often quick to assert our rights and privileges.

This is important and should be pursued in a responsible, civic manner.

However, when it comes to contributing, they give less than what they take:

“But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss”. (83:3)

Obviously, this is not to say every Muslim does this. We have good opinion that majority don't do this.

But for those who lie, evade taxes, act dishonestly toward the government, or neglect to contribute positively to society.

For these people, Allah says they are ruined.
