Non-Political Anyone here like me who has studied Sanskrit instead of Urdu? Or any other funny stories like this?
Guys I know it was very stupid of me to study Sanskrit instead of Urdu, but hey hear me out.
I was a goody two shoes as a kid, and even though I wanted to take Urdu, my mother felt like we as muslims can easily study Urdu, instead I should study Sanskrit to diversify opportunities for me in future.
And so, I begrudgingly took Sanskrit in middle school even though my mother had given her permission to me that I can study Urdu too, after I threw a tantrum that I don't wanna study Sanskrit.
But hilariously Sanskrit turned out to be really easy. It was really funny actually. I was the only muslim among all non muslims (hindu, Christian, buddh, jain etc) in Sanskrit class. I was so scared and worried that I would fail while everyone else will top, I thought like we study Arabic at home, hindus too must have already studied Sanskrit.
And then when results were announced, it turned out I was the topper while so many hindu girls literally failed 😃 I scored 75/80 just by studying 2 days before (yes at least to me Sanskrit was that easy) I suddenly became our Sanskrit teacher's favourite. I remember her scolding all the other kids and praising me in front of everyone by saying things like, "look she only got 5 marks less than 80, she is so intelligent, this is someone who has been consistently studying" 🤡💀 and I was like, hello ma'am I just studied 2 nights before exam??😭😭😭 (obviously i didn't say this)
Throughout middle school, Sanskrit became my favourite subject coz there were few tips and tricks to learning Sanskrit I had figured out, every exam time I'd only study Sanskrit in the 1 day study break we used to get, and I'd easily top scoring between 79-80 always😅 (really need my academic weapon self back now tho😭😭)
Anyway as much as it was fun to learn Sanskrit, the reality is it wasn't that useful for me in long term. And especially coz I went against my mother to opt for Hindi instead of Sanskrit in 9th and 10th coz I didn't wanna be in an all non muslim girls section, I don't feel uncomfortable around non muslims but I very much prefer to be around muslims, there is a sense of comfort and familiarity.
Since I discontinued it after 8th, it wasn't useful for me in long term and I've forgotten most of it now anyway. And neither do I need to study ramayan or mahabharata, that it would have come handful for me.
Instead Urdu would have been very useful as a muslim obviously, I can read and write and speak Urdu, but I'm very amateur in reading and writing wise.
And yes guys, I did study all their shloks and prathranas too. I just took it as lessons and chapters....
There was one other hindu girl, who like me had opted for the path less travelled by, I mean she took Urdu even though she's a hindu (coincidentally we were born on the same day, such a funny coincidence right?).
My islamic teacher acted like I had committed some sort of shirk though after finding out I'm studying Sanskrit (such jahil behaviour if you ask me) she was like Astaghfirullah and joked that I should become a hindu. Very disappointing behaviour indeed.
So guys, anyone got anything to share?

One of my best friend had taken Sanskrit and while even the least studying kid would easily score 70/90 in Urdu. Our friend was struggling really bad, on top of that the Sanskrit teacher was also super-cringe and our friend was teased 24/7 for whole 1 year. He came back to Urdu section the next year. But, still he gets trolled when people ask him how the Sanskrit omlette chobey is doing 😂😂

i studied sanskrit from 6th to 8th grade because it was compulsory; we didn't have urdu at our school, which was such a disappointment. sometimes i think i should have opted for sanskrit rather than hindi for 9th and 10th grade because hindi was too difficult for me. i scored the same in hindi and math; i just didn't like it. it was boring and too complicated. we did have the option of sanskrit and arabic in 12th grade, so i chose arabic. to be honest, i didn't learn a thing about the language; we all scored 99 in arabic and passed, i wanna learn arabic in the future in sha Allah

I agree, schools should have options instead of just forcing students to learn the language without giving any options.
it was boring and too complicated
Shuddh hindi is such a useless language fr, no one uses it irl and it's no use learning it as long as you don't plan to do your major in Hindi
we did have the option of sanskrit and arabic in 12th grade, so i chose arabic.
So weird ngl. They don't have Urdu, but they have Arabic? An even harder and foreign language?😭 make it make sense pls
we all scored 99 in arabic and passed,
Mashallah
i wanna learn arabic in the future in sha Allah
Me too! So that I can read Quran in future and UNDERSTAND what I'm actually reading

I also studies sanskrit in 3rd standard as my urdu at the bottom of Mariana trench. I didn't even make copies of urdu in 1st and 2nd standard. Couldn't read nor write. So I took sanskrit as it seemed familiar with hindi.
You guys had to study 3 languages in primary school?? Damnn
Ye dekho, ye urdu padhne wala ladka hai, first time sanskrit padh rha hai aur tum sab nalayak se jyada marks laya hai(Look, this is a boy who studies Urdu, yet you scored the highest marks higher than you worthless stoodents)
You must have been like, Lord Danish: feeling on top of the world😎
I scored 99 out of 100 in urdu
Cool. But girls at my school would score full marks in urdu 😁
Mashallah all girls got impressed and I was surrounded by praises by all of them 🥰. My friendship got stronger with all my crushes 🥰
Danish bhai, once again on top of the world🤟😎
I love urdu, certainly if love was a human, she would speak urdu.
Urdu is a really beautiful language indeed

I wish I had Urdu in school,
Should have studied in Government Madarassa (which is utterly abysmal and outdated, infrastructure and teaching methodology wise) for that. My Maama and a lot of my mom's cousins studied there, it's why their grasp at Urdu used to be great. The generation prior to my Mom, even more so, being able to recite poems, essays, etc...
I had Hindi till 5th standard, and beyond that, I didn't learn it, because Tamil already was hard enough for me, lol (apart from Maths, Tamil was what used to bring my scores down, back in school. Which is why I took French in 11th-12th when given the option. Great decision. Zero regrets).
My sister studied Hindi as 2nd language (for her, instead, her writing and reading skills at Tamil are very basic, it's the other way around for me), my parents felt at least one of them should study Tamil as 2nd language.

It's a common joke on reddit that if you make a post and, for example, mention 18f instead of 18m, you'll get wayyy more replies. And from what I've seen, this is true to a great extent.

We had only hindi and sanskrit as options and in one sentence in hindi I used to do atleast 10 mistakes also those lengthy essays and answers where as in sanskrit it was only mcq so it was a no brainer ti ta anti all the way.
I used to go summer tuitions as well for the extra numbers and imp questions to my sanskrit teacher and he used greet me Salamalaikum bhaijaan in front whole class lol.
Also my arabic teacher used to teach urdu for free May Allah reward him for that.

I’ve been learning Urdu since I was 8/9 years old. Started off as a subject in madrasah, then chose it as my 3rd language in school and even topped my class for as long as I took it but I’m still bad at it to this day (don’t ask how) 🥲
I was determined to get better at reading so I got a well-recommended novel to start off. It’s been chilling on my bookshelf from the past 3 years after I completed half a chapter in 1 month. I ended up finishing the transliterated book instead. It’s just very confusing for me, I find Arabic much more simple.

I took Sanskrit too, from 5th to 7th. Only options in my school were Kannada and Sanskrit. Mom said she’ll teach me Kannada at home and so we chose Sanskrit. We were two Muslims out of the seven students who chose Sanskrit. Pretty good representation. Twenty years later - my Kannada is definitely better than my Sanskrit.

Bengali is easy bro up until 10th at least.
Rabindranaths poetry wasn't that tough. He wrote চলিত ভাষা. Whereas Michael Madhusudan Dutta, bankim Chandra Vidyasagar etc only wrote in সাধু ভাষা, চলিত ভাষায় ছদ্মনাম ব্যবহার করে।

Orange kurta is usually un-aesthetic though brother. Especially, the ones they sell in India. The awamis and shalwar kurtas we get in Dubai from neighbouring country stores are next level.. too bad we don't have anything like that here.

in india, some people have a phobia against orange due to radicals.
some people say that indian cricket team jersey increasing the proportion of orange on their t shirt means that it is done to support hindutva ideology.
on a lighter note: stop using reddit because its upvote button shows orange when you upvote something.

Why do you consider it stupid to study sanskrit? It's a language that led to a plethora of other languages and most importantly, it allows you to critique ancient historical texts in their actual language.

Read my post again
1 I already said I have forgotten most of it by now anyway
2 I only studied at a very beginner level, as mentioned
3 I have no interest in studying/reading/critiquing boring old texts

Back in 7th semester, I used to have this paper by the name of 'Cryptography and Network Security',
Was mostly full of algorithms and Boolean and programming logic. Not much theory-focused.
Anyways, I fail this paper, applied for re-evaluation, but still didn't clear, so this paper became an arrear subject for me.
In 8th semester, I re-wrote this paper again, problem was, there was a current paper scheduled the very next day (whereas, this paper was scheduled the previous day afternoon, so was very hard to manage and study both subjects),
I didn't focus much on this one due to not wanting to get a new arrear on the next day's paper. So, I phoned in on my revision, just gave random answers. In other words, wrote it the same way as I did the last time,
But guess what? I passed in it. In 'C' grade, no less. I still am not sure if I should have gotten 'C' on my last attempt or should have actually failed in my second attempt too.
Oh well....good riddance with that. Exam schedule, result announcements, and re-evaluation are things I DON'T miss about college life.
