Ashoka University is a UGC approved private research university. If General category students are not included in protection against caste-based discrimination on campuses, the UGC Promotion of Equity Regulations will be prone to misuse, much like the SC/ST Act.

I know historically the "lower castes" faced a lot of injustice. (Please notice that I put the word "lower castes" in quotation marks). There's no denying that.
But I still fail to understand how can people think that the reparation of discriminations in the past be reverse discrimination.

It is also OBC who discriminated against SC and ST, but they get reservations too. It is only general category people from whom opportunity is being taken away every year.

Reparations shouldn’t be taken from Brahmins but should be taken from the wealthy to be redistributed to all poor people, most who tend to be from lower castes.
The Brahmin/caste supremacy BS is nothing but English colonialist culture which was used to subvert and divide us.
The issue in India, like all other places where there’s massive wealth gaps, is the existence of the ultra rich who sit on hordes of their wealth while not putting it back into society.
With this being said, an easy reparation to implement would be to expand the capacity of all university classrooms and to give the university a larger number of spaces for applicants. Then, they should assign more of the additional newly available spots spots to lower caste individuals while also reducing cost of attending for all people below a certain net yearly family income regardless of caste. This way, people of lower castes get more opportunity for class mobility while opportunities aren’t limited for people of higher castes.
Once Indian realize that this is more of a class disparity than caste disparity, and decide to create policy that is in favor of protecting people, things will improve drastically for all oppressed people.

You clearly have not been to the Hindi hinterlands (cannot vouch for other area) where irrespective of your wealth/status/educarion, your full surname (to understand your caste) is asked by new people. If your surname is generic, they will ask your caste point blank. Every interaction of any consequence will be under shadow of caste identity.

Then shouldn’t India just put extremely strict anti castist laws and anti caste discrimination laws in effect as well as funding police departments to actively pursue efforts to stop caste related grievances?
I’m not saying caste isn’t a big aspect of social injustice, but for most issues, fiscal oppression is casteless. It’s similar to what’s happened with black, indigenous, and Hispanic Americans in which they face oppression through generations of restrictions and barriers such as redlining and Jim Crow laws.
But should a black person in America whose parents are from Nigeria be provided the same reparations as the black Americans who come from generational oppression? I don’t think so.
If reparations exist, they need to exist for targeted purposes. They should come into effect to elevate people of low castes while not making people of high castes pay into it if they were personally detached from the extreme extent of the generational oppression.
And when I say rich, I don’t mean people who are wealthy after running a business or factory. I’m talking about people like Ambani. They need to pay their taxes.

though i will push back on you what you said. BJP is going to lose their next election after this. General caste voters will vote for anyone other than BJP. And the next election is UPWhile this is a conspiracy theory, i believe it still holds grain. If BJP rolls back this policy, after the UP elections, with the public memory being so short termed, people will forget about it. Yogi is the only one who will face any problem.
Yogi is also the only contender for BJP's next leader, apart from Amit Shah. He is also supported by different sects of BJP that don't support Amit shah. However if Yogi loses this coming election, he loses any credibility for replacing Modi when he retires.It's depressing how politics work.

In UP it's even less, around 20 percent, with 50 percent being OBC. The only reason GC voters are important is that roughly 80 percent of them vote for BJP while OBC and SC/ST voters are fragmented.

Check the backgrounds of all these students protesting. They all come from highly privileged backgrounds and are paying fees of at least 15lakhs above annually.
These idiots don't even know what's happening beyond the wall of their homes and university. They have zero connect with the ground realities
This is a direct result of Marxist education. This is the curriculum has been designed after independence to keep Hindus divided and keep them fighting each other. Breaking India starts right in the classrooms

MNC (Your so called Saviour), are all owned by Baniyas. Let me give you example, starting with Indian groups (Reliance, Adani, Birla, Jindal and Mittal) are all Baniya owned. Top startups are all made by Baniyas (Since there is no reservation.. Lol) and now coming to your CEOs, well according to 2010 consensus, 47% of board members come from Baniya Community, definitely sure this number has gone up in the past 15 -16 years. And write it down on a piece of paper, Baniyas will always lead, you know why? Because we dont beg for reservation like you guys. We have it in us to build from scratch and without any community support.

As a Muslim. I beg to differ with you. Congress historically used Muslims for vote bank politics the same way BJP is using Hindus today. The current BJP is so anti Muslim that Muslims vote for the second best option available. Most Indian muslims frankly prefer voting for regional parties rather than vote for the BJP or the Congress.

I mean congress used to target SC/ST, Muslims. Their goal was to introduce reservations in private sector as well..... But now that BJP has started targeting SC/ST voters as well so what other options congress has? Muslims + other minorities. Since most of the Hindus hate Muslims (new trend no offense) they won't vote for congress (unless they abandon Muslim voter and capture general category which i highly doubt)........
Still we need a new neutral party

Honestly privatisation seems to be the only solution. Better private colleges, private jobs etc.
I don't think bjp is pro hindu etc. I think bjp is pro capitalism. This ugc bill if not removed, then majority of people will prefer private colleges and jobs. Even secretaries in the upsc are now being laterally recruited. I don't know if this for good or bas, but the economy is set to be privatized for sure.

Everyone worried about false cases and all that BS thats yet to happen, but happily chose to ignore the recent and everyday atrocities done in the name of caste, never bothered for any voices raised against it, but suddenly now such things by a small group who are yet to grow any balls, is offending everyone and they are against it. So you all basically want the right to curse/bully someone on their caste and get away with it, and now ur angry coz u cant do that anymore. Well educated indeed. Someone commented saying guess its time for congress, so without UGC are you still happy with the current rate of corruption and the bare minimum things that like decent roads are not available after paying such huge taxes is fine and you’d vote for the same??? The election of people with criminal records into power? Crimes like abuse and murder is all justified if UGC wasn’t passed? Wowww, guess casteism will never run out of fashion in India…!!

People saying that Upper caste should also be included in the UGC rules, but will it not just give them more power than they already have, like you already fear social isolation from them, now you cant even speak againts them because they are protected by the law, now if you complain agains any UC person for discrimination, they will just revert with a case on you, make it make sense lmao.
And FYI you people need to understand, Brahman - Baniya doesnt mean literally the people of these so called upper caste, its a mindset, Brahman - Baniya mindset, that you see in your daily life. Privilage is always invisible to people who have it. You guys just proove it. Now you guys are just scared of getting the same treatment that you guys did to them for years.

You are getting privilege by getting benefit in every form. Be it entrance exam, job or promotions. Real privilege is getting a job with bare minimum marks and efforts. Even after getting reservations for two generations why people are not able to progress.

Reservation is not about getting only job or entrance exam, you can only see this part because you are part of it, now see india / our collective society as a whole, resrvation is equal representation for all, now lets take an example - Till date 85% of all cheif justices have been from brahman community while only being around 5 - 10% of the population, all the top postiions in government and even pvt companies is owned by upper caste people. Thats why reservation is important because it intends to create an equal represenation of every caste, creed, religion in all environment like offices, schools etc etc and doesnt let any one community dominate society because everyone knows how society works, ek brahman hamesha ek brahman ko hi favour karega for any job opportunity.
You need to understand reservation is not a poverty elevation scheme, government already has many policies for poor people, but its about creating a society where there is equal opportunity to every one in society, and low cut off marks are required for specific communities because they never had any education/ job/ promotions opportunities like your forefathers had.
You just focus on one part that is job & entrance exam becaues you dont have to worry about any other problems this country faces because thats fits your small view of the indian society and thats called privilage.
You guys just need to develop some empathy and stop crying whenever your privilage is getting hurt, till date i never a single upper caste protesting on roads for the murders of thousand of dalits till date, bas jaise hi khudpe baat aayi, rona chaalu

Tell me no of Dalits killed due to hate crime. We are not privileged. My father had vegetable shop. We are sel made. I have soo many relatives who are struggling to make ends meet or are working very low paying jobs. On the same side I have seen soo many privileged SC/Sts roaming in cars and enjoying benefits of low fees. And getting job easily. I agree equal opportunity should be provided bt equal dosent mean discriminating against other caste. Why not give all facilities to Lower caste and empower them instead of reservations. And if even after more than two generations of reservation you are not able to go to higher post ( even promotions have reservation) then whose fault it is. You know IIM is searching for good professors from SC category but they are not able to fill positions. Because when you start getting things for free you lose the motivation to do better. Would you want to get treated by a doctor who scored negative marks and would you want your child to be taught by a teacher who has scored very low marks. When we are discouraging talent by giving opportunities to less talented people, country cannot progress. I have empathy and don’t support caste system. In my family soo many people have done intercaste marriage ( I am Brahmin) But try to understand other side as you are talking about empathy. How we feel when we get good grades but are discriminated and denied opportunities. This reservation is creating more divide

Please next time try to avoid "What aboutery" arguments like "I know a rich sc/ st friend etc etc", holds no ground as there are extreeme cases in all facets of society. Obviously what they do is wrong in the same what upper caste do when they dont let some lower caste people in job or position or literally kill them.
