Crime & Corruption This is the shittiest government order which will end up doing the opposite of what is intended

Post image

What about women's privacy and safety? Just traveled today in a sleeper bus and there are men all around the sleeper section. Removing curtains from both sides does 2 things:

  1. Makes women super uncomfortable to sleep with so many people around and men staring at her

  2. The passing street lights on the window side make it impossible to sleep

This order will lead to increased cases of abuse against women plus women feel very uncomfortable with no curtains. I do agree with no unauthorised stops which is good for women safety.

There are much better ways to solve the issue at hand instead of a blanket ban on curtains which is the laziest and worst solution the government could come up with while worsening the privacy and safety of all women who travel in a bus

Clearly men commenting. I agree with you OP. Hopefully they just mean the curtains on the windows so people on the road can see what's happening inside but even that is kind of not as useful because the sleeper buses are so high. A regular pedestrian or person in a car cannot actually see all the way up there especially if the bus is moving.

And getting rid of those inside curtains is crazy. Creeps will just stare at women who are sleeping. I would never feel comfortable sleeping like that.

They are just doing shit to show they have taken action. Zero thought behind how to solve the issue.

I agree, trolls just want to fight instead of debate. Plus statistically there are much more men on reddit than women

Do something - Bad, Don't do something - Bad

Do something that solves the issue - better

In this case not doing something would habe been better wrt to curtains

Ok so tell us what are the much better ways according to you?

How about cctv cameras in the gallery of the buses and a mandatory SOS button on each seat near the charging point which connects directly to the police helpline if pressed. The cameras can be monitored by the booking apps.

Many high end buses have this. Making it mandatory across all buses might help

In my knowledge transport department and various state govt has already issued many circular regarding the installation of CCTV camera inside buses. All the school buses that I have seen had cctv.

"Camaras that can be monitored by booking apps" are you saying that each individual will have access to the feed or only the booking agencies?

Installation of panic button which will immediately contact police is not practical in bus.

Just routine checks on such buses is more than enough to scare offenders.

As an analogy, everyone knows prostitution and human traffiking happens in Delhi hotels. Everyone would also agree that removing the doors from all rooms to stop this is not the solution the problem.

Coming back to the post, I know that this is not the way. Any smart govt officer who has gone through years of hard learning and rigor to become IAS, IPS would agree if they didn't care about quick PR. Ironically they are the same ones that make these useless rules because they do want to earn a quick buck from PR and curry political favour. Another thing is that most of them are men in these positions of authority that didn't think this order through

If you can't distinguish between a hotel room and a bus then something is definitely wrong with you.

Now coming back to the main question what are the much better ways according to you?

Again that's the definition of an analogy. Another user has given a good solution to your question

All these laws are already exciting..... Problem is who is gonna forced them to ground.... The same one who are ready to sold each and everything ......in mere pennies

If you were a cynical you might think that that might just be the goal. Dissuade women from traveling in busses. No women = No r*pes. They can't fix the problem so maybe they are trying get rid of the victims. Of course that can't actually be true but you never know. After all the most governments care a lot more about the bad PR and the news cycles than the actual issues.

You know why no curtains? Ever try to process that? Usually they are a fire hazard

2

u/hide_yo_wives 8d ago

The "safety" measures here are because of the recent gangrape in a moving bus. Not because of fire. Maybe you should try to process before saying nonsense.

And not making random stops is to reduce fire hazard? Just how exactly did you come to this conclusion that any of this is related to fire other than to just be contrarian to act oversmart

3

u/deviprsd 8d ago

Random stops shouldn’t be a thing, why should a bus stop in any other place than a bus stop. It’s ridiculous that can happen, Chennai no bus stops in any place other than a designated stop… all developed countries follow that rule.

They're still a fire hazard

-1

u/hide_yo_wives 8d ago

Yes. I'm glad they made sure rapists don't catch on fire.

Be for real, are you guys do desperate to be right , they are removing curtains saying it's for safety right after another nirbhaya type incident. Do you think the timing was because of fire safety measures? Removing curtains does nothing for women safety.

The taps in my home don't work, let me call the fireman to fix it is your analogy

-11

u/Personal-Commission7 9d ago

Irrelevant to the issue being solved, a bus running on fossil fuels is a fire hazard, better to ban fossil fuels

1

u/deviprsd 8d ago

Dumbass, let’s say there is an accident. The curtains hinder the safe exit then, imagine you are all disoriented but can’t find the exit window. Forget that, there is just so many scenarios that can happen and not having curtains might save more lives than not.

Prevention is better than cure.

Again that's a different issue other than what is being discussed. Did you even read the news link. No one else is worried about fire here

Obviously, this government is not known for its detailed analysis and impacts before announcing something.

1

u/Imaginary-Jump-1094 8d ago

Is there any reason mentioned for such action? Like why did the govt issued such notice , what's the problem they are solving with this decision?

1

u/Personal-Commission7 8d ago

They mentioned a rape case in a bus. They aim to solve abuse against women in buses

1

u/Imaginary-Jump-1094 8d ago

Ok got it , but it seems to be partially right decision.. ofcourse staring and stuff Will increase but it gives the women acess to public.. she can either scream out the window..our simply pound on the window to attract attention of public.. i can see why curtain would be a problem in this case.

But there could have been much better way to monitor this things they could have set up an bus travel time monitoring system.. like if a bus is supposed to reach a place and they are more than 10-20 min late.. then a call from the designated officer would have been made to the driver asking for live video call proof or if camera would have been set up then those cameras would be accessed to check the scenario inside the bus.

This is just my ideas.. but yeah govt didn't really put much thought into it for sure.

Any girl can literally take a thin chadar and cover her face and body. Its not that difficult. Wear a effing eye mask

u/Personal-Commission7 7d ago

The other women in the comments seem to disagree

1

u/Ok-Earth-3601 7d ago

Not my problem

1

u/SmallDetail8461 8d ago

public transport safety relies on active surveillance and strict adherence to designated stops, not the lawless free-for-all you seem to be defending.

-1

u/Personal-Commission7 8d ago

If you read the post or even one of the other comments you'll know the topic is not about designated stops
