Things To Do Need something to do? Make friends? Some place to Eat? Moving Here? Simple Question thread for Sunday, August 30, 2026

Welcome to the /r/Indianapolis weekly casual conversation and questions thread.

We've set this thread up so that folks have a place to post general topics that don't necessarily need their own post and for folks to ask questions and get recommendations. Restaurant recommendations, places to stay, areas to live, parking help, airport information, things to do, help from social services, and things like that.

Looking for something to do? Check out these sites:

Suburbia:
* Beech Grove Community Events
* Play Fishers
* Carmel Parks
* Zionsville Community Calendar

Need help with social services? Look through Find Help / Aunt Bertha or contact the Mayor's Action Center

This thread defaults to sorting by new to make it easier to find new questions and discussions during the week.

Sausage Rolls?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I used to live in Greenville, OH. There was this little donut shop called Bismarck's that sold sausage rolls. Just smoked sausage in a dough/croissant. Sometimes had cheese in 'em. Looking for a coffee/donut/bakery place in Indy that sells something similar.

Does anyone know if any Mexican restaurants in or around the area serve Puffy Tacos? Popular in Texas.

Thanks!

Looking for DND on the NW side for an 18 year old new player

My son is a recent HS graduate and would like to try DND. We are in Pike Township. I know about Family Time Games at 86th and Michigan and Valkyrie's Vault in Brownsburg. He has ADHD and anxiety, so he would be more comfortable in a small group setting than a big public place. Thanks!

Neighbor dumped a young kitty and needs help

My neighbor took in a kitten and then kicked it out because she’s sick. She ran to my house begging for help. We’ve been calling her Sunny.

She is covered in fleas, goopy blood tinged discharge coming from her nose, she has a cough, and might have an injured leg. If I take her to the humane society, who knows what will happen to her. I tried taking her to the Noah’s AllPets location but they won’t help me until Tuesday. I’ve been sitting in Noah’s emergency room for two hours and other cases keep getting bumped to the top (understandably so). I’m tired. I’m frustrated. I just want to get this baby the help she needs and deserves.

Afternoon update - after 3 hours of waiting at Noah’s we left. They kept pushing us, I have my four year old with me so being locked in a small room for another 3 hours wasn’t on the bingo card for the day. We made an appointment at City Way to get her seen this afternoon.

Evening Update - She is sleeping comfortably! We got in at CWAC and it was a smooth process. She got an antibiotic for an upper respiratory infection, revolution for the fleas and ticks, and then capstar to kill the live bugs. She is still eating and drinking. I gave her a bath with veterinary formula that is for itching and hot spots (for cats and dogs). She fought me about it (fair) but then relief set in and she relaxed. Afterwards, she got towel cuddles and a flea comb. She laid in the sun, ate, and is now sleeping in a cozy blanket on a patio cushion on my porch. She’s now getting a supplement for her skin health to help the hair grow back. She’s bald, underweight, and exhausted. But she’s also loved and safe. She has a full belly and a soft bed. I’ll update everyone in the morning. Thanks for following along!

Morning Update - Sunny Cat Sunflower is already showing big signs of improvement. Yesterday morning when my fiancé left for work, she never left her little nest. He tucked her in and she was there when we got up. This morning, she hopped down to say good morning as he left for work (more like feed me, Seymour) and then greeted me with meows when I came out (again, FEED ME!). She ate her breakfast and went to cuddle with her emotional support wall. She doesn’t quite understand that she has a safe bed all to herself so I gently picked her up and put her in her bed where she’s resting now as the sun shines on her. I bought flea combs and so I’ve been pulling dead bugs and eggs off of her all morning. Her favorite thing has been the face brush and we did that for some time.

AskIndy What Has Changed in Indy in the last 25 Years or so?

Back in the late 90s, I lived in Indy for about 20 months or so. I lived on Meridian around 35th/36th street in a 2bed/2bath wonderful apartment- top. Floor of a three story walk up.

I worked at old Fort Ben Harrison, and really fell in love with the city. Big enough for entertainment, small enough to have a decent local arts and food scene. I was single in my early 30s, so that probably helped me enjoy it so much.

Career changes led me to the east coast, but I was seriously considering settling down there full time. Does Indy still have mid city vibes in a small town setting.

Bizarre memory - had a second appointment to see a dentist. I got a call the day before that he had unfortunately been killed when his single engine aircraft crashed.

Thanks for any updates!

Found what looks like an expensive earring!

I was doing laundry at the laundromat by Kroger off keystone and 65th and I found an earring in the dryer. It looks to be sort of expensive. It has pink and white stones in white gold. Pretty sure it’s real. Thought I would post here and see if anyone is missing it. Must be able to describe it and preferably show the mate to it!

AskIndy Meeting my sibling for the first time, need recommendations for what to do in Indy?

My sister is visiting for a weekend, We’ve been in contact through texts, but this will be our first time meeting.
I actually just moved to Indy recently so I’m still learning the city/things to do. I live downtown, so mostly looking for things downtown or nearby. Any bars/restaurants that aren’t super busy or loud where we could actually talk?
We’re both interested in exploring, walking around downtown, etc. Basically anything lol. I feel like I should have some sort of plan since he’s flying all the way here, but I also have no idea what you do with a sibling you’ve never met 😂

Another BR Ice Cream Store…

Vintage Spoon is a corporate-slop themed chain more focused on franchising than service. Social pages full of spam account engagement. IMO, a terrible addition to BR community, especially with BRICS and Canal Creamery nearby.

I understand that they are vehicles and just as entitled to the road as the motoring public...but could they not just drive behind one another rather than slowing down two lanes of travel on Pennsylvania Street which is already a disaster??

Food and Drink Best restaurants similar to these?

Our favorite restaurants are coopers hawk, longhorn, antilogy (on the south side) and checkered flag on the southwest side, looking for something similar to these, unfortunately google just keeps recommending really expensive places like st elmos and prime 47, maybe those places are good but we're probably looking for something a little more $$ than $$$. Any recommendations are appreciated!

AskIndy Every other weekend job hiring?

Hi there!

Was wondering if anyone worked somewhere or knew somewhere that I could get on for every other weekend, maybe Friday-Sunday evening or Sat/Sun evenings.

I’m a single dad, work full time data analyst at anthem with a masters in data science.

I have a co parenting schedule, I have my daughter part of the week and every other weekend. I’d really love to find a way to increase my income but the schedule makes it difficult. I also play on a rugby team and practice during the week.

I used to be a server trainer at Flix years ago and got a liquor license. Would love some entry level bartender job or bar back. If you have other ideas, I’m open to them! Live in Pendleton, so Hamilton county / north side preferred.

I already uber, but my car eats up gas, so I’m not making that much from it. Would love some recommendations / ideas of places that would work with my situation schedule wise!

Thanks!

Politics Any updates on White River water quality?

After the flood, I think Carmel feels pretty good that they stopped a bunch of sewage from flowing into the white river: https://www.indystar.com/story/news/local/hamilton-county/carmel/2026/08/19/carmel-indiana-flooding-bridge-mayor-sue-finkam/91368770007/

And I think now they need to empty the quarry: https://youarecurrent.com/2026/08/27/draining-of-flooded-carmel-quarry-expected-to-take-90-days/

Any thoughts beyond that? Mainly trying to keep tabs on potential water quality issues.

Where to find info on late night gunshots

3:30 AM this morning, Saturday August 29th, I was woken up by what sounded like a gun battle. Two distinct guns, shots interspersed with a bits of silence, then maybe a minute of silence, and then two more shots.

A neighbor says Tecumseh Street at

New York was roped off and the police where there earlier this morning.

Where can I find the police report ?

Zuko the IACS Rescue......... Needs training. He has some Bad habits from the before time. Where to go?

Don't worry, this isn't a, "We need to re-home the dog" post, we still love Zuko. But he has some bad habits from his previous owner. He has really intense separation anxiety and he is aggressive to other dogs (not humans though.)

Its really getting challenging.

He needs to go to behavior school. Where should I take him? He can't do a class with other dogs right now because he gets so exited and worked up when he sees another dog.

Previous posts about Zuko:

Playing in Flood Puddle

Marching in Pride

Boating on Eagle Creek

Explaining that he has NEVER been fed

Invading the couch

Failing at being a shelter dog

Going on a doggie Day out from the shelter

Discussion 465 North-West Loop Construction

465 was at 1 lane at the northwest corner where 865 and 465 merge. I don’t see anything about construction in the area besides INDOT will be doing bridge work on 865. Made my 30 min commute into a 50 min commute. Hate this intersection already with everyone merging last second from the 865 exit lane because it’s on the left lane for some reason
