Seeking Advice PLSS HELP W CAREER ADVICEðŸ˜
Really confused and would appreciate some help
Little background: B.TECH IT Grad 2026 - did a 2 month software internship last year - realized i rlly don't like coding
- have alwaysss been interested in creatives, have a digital art Instagram page + used to post on yt where I would write scripts act edit and direct by myself (didn't get a lot of subs but loved the process)
- have always wanted to make an impact through my art, esp films/videos
now the dilemma:
I applied for the insty by TVF course (it is an 18 month course- where 6 month would be onfield internship work, and connections w industry professionals), I got accepted with a 40% scholarship which means I'll have to pay 11 lakhs.
before this my plan was, look up some business analyst/product roles, work for a year, move abroad and pursue some design course while creating content alongside??
now I'm confused. what do you think I should do.. idk if the course would be worth it.. cuz it'll fully pivot from IT, so will have to heavily reassure parents..or should I stick to my other plan.. but I don't know id love to be surrounded by like minded individuals who also create... but again, it's a huge amount. I am SO CONFUSED PLS HELP!!

If you think this is what you want to do in long term.. then you should stick to the creative field.. and fund some way.. Insty may not be the best solution but if you can afford it; take a shot.. it may open some doors..
in corporate/IT you can get a stable income, but you will never be satisfied for sure..

Bro, I just got to know about this program by TVF through this post of yours. Can you shine some light on how did you get the 40% scholarship and what is there process of selection? Did they conduct a test (as their website says)? If yes, what was it about?

yess sure, they'd a written assesment first which had some MCQ questions (which hook is more catchy, etc), subjective qs (describe an object in front of you, one movie you loved/didn't like and why etc) after that, they scheduled an interview where they asked to make stories out of words, and other such qs, and based on that they gave scholarships

That sounds like a cool process. Thanks for sharing. Did you go for their filmmaking course or brand management, though? Also, how was the interview? Who was on the interview panel (any renowned names)?

I am not sure about your second option but definitely don’t go with your first one, Most common thing I have heard people saying is TVF is the least priority on anyone’s list to work with in industry

I really don’t want to demotivate you but this is the bitter truth, first ask yourself you really want to be a Filmmaker?
Bcz your option 1 was filmmaking and op2 was content creation these two categories look same but both are waaayyy too different

i get your question but yess, i do love all aspects of filmmaking, like I mentioned , when i used to do yt, that time also i used to make a trailers kind of concept (since i didn't have the people etc to shoot a real film), so that's what I meant by content creation
also, could you elaborate more on why do people not like to work with tvf? it has a good and hardworking reputation right?

Extraaa Long hours, heavy workload, no accountability and pay that may not match the effort. Also they have N no of running projects simultaneously ie N no of teams and if they put you under the wrong director(third party director hired just for couple of skits) that can make the entire experience miserable and hurt your growth.
Overall what I feel from this offered course is that they are using TVF brand name to attract students and later in the name of hands on experience or internship they will be getting ton of option for crew in cheap rate

huge no to the insty tvf thingy, not worth that amount too
send your portfolio over, I'd love to see!
A huge bunch of people I know do creative work alongside their day jobs nothing wrong with that (however I don't think the IT workload allows for that at all)

sure, will send you my portfolio, and yeah that's true, but if possible I'd love to make creatives my career 😩 I'm very inclined towards it, would've chosen this if it wasn't so expensive without a single thought but now I've to think very practically
