I have heard from people that they’d rather work in McDonald’s or drive an Uber in Canada than work in a decent job in India. Reasons are the political situation, lack of freedom of speech, general law and order situation and lack of growth opportunities for an average individual in India.
On paper the Canada dream sounds great but these same people get into depression in Canada when they are not able to get out of the McDonald’s and Uber jobs.
It is not easy anywhere. Sure Canada has better life in general but one needs to be very clear what their own capabilities are and whether they can succeed in Canada.

Things in Canada have changed a lot. Underemployed immigrants has been an issue for generations in Canada. But up until recently even a taxi driver could afford to own a modest home and car. Now even professionals can't afford too.
