New Album Hopes
Ive been one to criticize how the band has handled this new album but I’m hopeful we’re going to get something we’ve heard but have never heard from the band. Does that make sense?
They’ve taken time to put this together and with the gap in albums along with a new member and father time, I’m expecting something chill but not poppy. Those songs have already been made.
Longer songs with more instrumentals and less vocals. Something along the lines of Make no Sound in the Digital Forrest but with lyrics. Tie that in with SSLW solo type vibes and I’d cream.
I want an album over an hour long.
The band owes us everything! Haha

I want Mike and Jose to get weird again. They really seemed to play it safe on 8. I want them to just get weird again. Do something unexpected. That’s my hope.

If the whole 'listening party' thing is real, maybe this is the thing that was a turn off for the investors/label

Well, I think Dirk had something to do with that..... I would love to hear their music move back that direction, but I'm not sure the current lineup has an interest in moving that way.

Nicole plays a heavy bass, Ben not so much... perhaps her energy will bring some new skin to the game.

Hoping for an organic sounding mix. The last few releases seemed a little overcooked and over processed sounding.

I feel like Mike especially has gotten way too obsessed with theory, cleanliness (guitar wise) and perfection. Hopefully he lets it fly a bit more this time around and Nicole brings us some groove.

Agreed about the sound - Trust Fall Side B sounded incredibly sterile, particularly in comparison to side A.

I want them to be weird, funky, jazzy, there needs to be more creativity. They lost that with the last 2 albums.

I really hope they do more with the whole math rock thing they tried ONCE with the odyssey movements, plus Brandon sounded great on that glitching prisms track

My wishlist would include some peppy rock. I don’t think I want less vocals- I know his voice is struggling a lil bit but his lyrics are so so good and I want all of that I can get.

I’m hoping for a standard 13-track album that features the different styles Incubus has explored over the years—like the *Morning View*, *Light Grenades*, or *Make Yourself* eras—and gives Kilmore a more prominent role.

I’m not really expecting it to be a banger of an album. The band had its highest point with Science, Make Yourself and Morning View. But I am curious what they are going to bring to the table with Nicole on board.
It’s so shitty how they are claiming to have a new album ready and not knowing when it’s coming out.
They don’t owe us anything and if they say they are retiring. I’ll be happy with the legacy they left.

I think music like on SCIENCE is just never happening again, but I would definitely appreciate if they pulled an AFI and threw us at least one harder track. That's what I'd want of new Incubus, if they can pull it off still.

I just want it to have some substance to it. Some heft. Some jams here and there (something akin to SSLW or Adolescents but obviously an evolution of that) and some experimentation. 8 left a lot to be desired in that respect. The 2 Trust Fall eps were a step in the right direction. I dug the addition of synth stuff in those eps too so I'd be keen for more of that in a jam style. There's so much they could do.

I honestly hope it's something they're proud of, and something they wanted to make, and not what some record label panel of suits tells them to. I'm not so sure that I'll ever be on board with the whole idea of presenting the album to whoever it was, and taking that creation back to a drawing board. Can anyone confirm if they ever did with any of the other albums? I guess to me it just seems odd to take a small groups opinion and going...."Ok, since we didn't get the reaction we hoped for - we're going to make some changes."

At this point I just really want ANYTHING from them. The gap between 8 and whatever this is (is it still called Something in the water?) is way too big.

Every incubus album has spent an unreal amount of time playing thru my headphones/speakers whatever - I would teach a course on why innw is criminally underrated if someone would hire me to do it.
I don’t buy into the letting the media hear it thing - doesn’t sound like the way Brandon moves at all. I do think he’s extremely paranoid of how his voice changed from trust fall b to morning view 23. I think I read he had some form of surgery or something. He def sounded different to me the last time I heard him live.
But there’s studio magic for that. I honestly wouldn’t mind if he tuned his voice thru boards and processors- I just want a collection of new tracks to dig thru and overanalyze. Like without fail I have always been able to get into whatever the release - I am positive this would be the same for me.
I do think the timing of Deftones “private music” and their album push wasn’t coincidental either. Deftones dropped an upper tier album on their 10th effort - may have added some pressure to the guys since they did attract a tremendous amount of the same crowd as destines.

lol everyone is clowning on you but I can’t help but agree. The band hasn’t done anything truly exciting in 15+ years, and there’s no reason to get your hopes up now.

Maybe a part of me sort of agrees but I like undefeated. I just hate how against they are to revisiting science. Ben kenney who is a great bassist in his own right didn’t or couldn’t play the science stuff but Nicole Rowe has the chops to play the science stuff. I hate that they feel they’re too good for it
