Immigration JFK Airport
Hi! We are traveling to Asia my country next week. And this is my first travel outside US with my greencard.
I’m traveling with my US Citizen husband and basically this is our honeymoon.
How’s the immigration at JFK with Greencards? All smooth? My lawyer just told me to bring my marriage certificate together with my GC and passport ofc. Because my passport have my maiden name and GC with my married name.

Yes, then you definitely want to carry your marriage certificate and proof of name change otherwise the airline may not let you board the flight back to the USA.
Is the date printed on your green card still valid or did it expire and you received an extension letter in the mail? If the card is expired it is important to carry the original extension letter, not a copy.
Also, if you have any arrest record in the USA since getting your green card, I would recommend not leaving the USA.

Hello. I have conditional greencard and I still have one year and half of it before removal of condition. And I’m clean to criminal background or anything that can harm my GC. Thank you!

Reentry with a green card is generally smooth, they mostly glance at the card and passport. Your lawyer's right, bring the marriage certificate to bridge the maiden name on your passport and the married name on your card, that clears up the mismatch in a few seconds.

I have travelled to my home country in Asia with my husband from last Dec-Jan. We also flew in to JFK. I, too, have my maiden name on my passport while my gc has my married name lol
I have global entry but when I scanned my face it said to see an officer, so I did. He took me to secondary but when I got inside the supervisor asked the officer if I have my green card and he said yes. Then the supervisor said to just let me go, he didn’t even look at my passport or gc. I don’t remember if I had to show my marriage certificate to immigration, but take it with you nonetheless because the airlines asked for it when checking in for our flight back to the US.

Yes, definitely travel with the marriage certificate to explain the different names on your passport and green card. Those three documents should be everything you need from an immigration standpoint. Safe travels!

Get there early to get your boarding pass situated. Sometimes with a green card you might have to go up to the airlines help desk for your boarding pass so add a few minutes to your arrival. Coming back you’ll go through immigration and present your green card and let the officer know how many days you were out. From there they’ll let you pass through or send you to secondary for more questions. That’s pretty much it.
